Beloved Son, Father, Swim Coach
Glenn R. Atkinson, 48, of Newtown, died unexpectedly October 26, at his home. He was born in Danbury, March 8, 1962, a son of Lyn (Erb) and Edward Atkinson of Newtown.
Mr Atkinson was a lifelong resident of Newtown and was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1981. He was captain of the swim team during his senior year.
He was a self-employed stone artisan and did the stonework for the Newtown Meeting House, Edmond Town Hall, and other Newtown landmarks. Mr Atkinson was most recently employed by O&G Industries.
He was well known as coach of the Torpedoes swim team. He was very involved with his childrenâs activities and interests. Mr Atkinson enjoyed golfing and gathering with his family and friends.
He was a communicant of St Rose of Lima Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by four daughters, Abigail Atkinson of Washington, D.C., Emma Atkinson, a student at John Carroll University in Ohio, and Maggie and Ellen Atkinson, both of Newtown; three brothers, Mark Atkinson of New Milford, and Keith and Eric Atkinson, both of Southbury; a sister, Nancy Devore of Torrington; four nephews and three nieces.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Rose of Lima Church, Saturday, October 30, at 10 am. Interment will be private. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Friday, October 29, from 4 to 8 pm.
