Popular Children's Authors At C.H. Booth Library
Popular Childrenâs Authors
At C.H. Booth Library
The C.H. Booth Library will present two special programs with popular childrenâs authors in November.
Bruce Degen, Newtown resident, illustrator, and author of numerous award-winning books for children, including Daddy is a Doodlebug and Jamberry, will present a PowerPoint presentation on the illustrations he did in the latest Magic School Bus offering: The Magic School Bus and the Climate Challenge, Saturday, November 6, at 2 pm, at the C.H. Booth Library. Mr Degen will discuss the research he did for the bookâs illustrations.Â
Mr Degen is one of Americaâs best-known illustrators, having collaborated with author Joanna Cole as illustrator of the highly acclaimed and wildly popular Magic School Bus series many times before.Â
An author signing will follow the presentation. Copies will be available for purchase on the day of the program for $17. This program is recommended for ages 7 to adult.Â
On Sunday, November 13, from 1 to 2:30 pm, the library will host a family event with Connecticut childrenâs book author Kathleen Kudlinski. Ms Kudlinski is well-known to many Newtowners and has led the Creative Writing Summer Camp for grades 6 through 9 for four years. She is a prolific childrenâs author and several of her books can be found in the C.H. Booth Library collection.
The author will present an interactive slide show about wildlife, Native Americans and their interconnected lives based on her new book, Horse Indian Wolf: The Hidden Pictures of Judy Larson. The book is about the importance of protecting endangered species, habitat for wildlife, and the way of life of Native Peoples. Two themes converge in these paintings and stories: the lives of animals in the wild and the fate of Native Americans who lived in harmony with the natural world.
Inspired by artist Judy Larsonâs detailed paintings of wildlife, Ms Kudlinski weaves biology, ecology, and Native American legend and history into an inspired treatise for young people.
A book signing, face painting, an art craft, and Native American refreshments will follow the presentation. Copies of the book, ideal for young people age 7 and up, will be available for purchase at the event, for $17, with all proceeds to benefit the library.
Registration is not required for these free programs. For more information contact the childrenâs department of the C.H. Booth Library at 203-426-3851.
