State police report that a Sandy Hook man was involved in two motor vehicle accidents on the morning of October 22 on eastbound Interstate 84, one in Newtown, and then another involving a state police car in Waterbury.
State police said that motorist Luis Naula, 42, no address given, was driving a 1993 Honda Accord eastward on I-84, about one-half mile east of Exit 10 at about 6:22 am, when the Honda was struck from behind by motorist Daniel Tibolla, 18, of 12 Osborn Hill Road Ext, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry.
Naula was not injured in that accident, but the Toyota driven by Tibolla kept traveling eastward, state police said.
The Honda driver was able to get a good look at the offending vehicle, state police said.
Somewhat later, a Ford Crown Victoria sedan state police car driven by Trooper Fawn Oullette, no age given, was struck by the Toyota on eastbound I-84 in Waterbury, west of Exit 18, while attempting to stop the Toyota, state police said.
Naula, who had continued traveling eastward on I-84 in the Honda, identified the Toyota that was involved in the accident with the state police car as the same vehicle which was involved in the Newtown accident, state police said.
Both Tibolla and Oullette were transported to Waterbury Hospital after the Waterbury accident to be checked for possible injuries, state police said.
Both of the accidents in which Tibolla was involved are under investigation, state police said.
