Student Arrested
Student Arrested
Police report that at about 9 am on October 21, an altercation occurred between a student and a security guard at Newtown High School.
During the conflict, the student pushed the security guard, police said. Following an investigation, police arrested the student on a charge of second-degree breach of peace.
After processing, police released the student on a written promise to appear on November 8 in Danbury Juvenile Court.
Because the youth who was arrested is under age 18, the studentâs identity is shielded from public disclosure by state law.
 NHS Drugs
Police report that at about 12:30 pm on October 20, police and school officials learned that the illicit sale of a drug may have occurred at Newtown High School.
An investigation indicated that such a transaction had taken place, police said. Consequently, police arrested a student on a charge of sale of a controlled substance for allegedly illegally selling a prescription drug to another person.
After processing, the student was released on a written promise to appear on November 8 in Danbury Juvenile Court. Because the youth who was arrested is under age 18, the studentâs identity is shielded from public disclosure by state law.

Tree Across Road
Police report that at about 3:30 pm on October 16, they were parked with a patrol car with its emergency lights flashing on Mile Hill Road South, near its intersection with Keating Farms Avenue, to warn motorists of a tree that had fallen across the street.
At that time, motorist Charlene Bailey, no age given, of Bethel, was driving a Volkswagen Routan van southward on Mile Hill Road South, police said. The Volkswagen then entered the northbound lane, passed the parked police car, and collided with the tree, police said.
Bailey was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Currituck Crash
At about 8:06 am on October 20, motorist Steven Pires, 28, of Danbury, who had been driving a 2005 Honda sedan southward on Currituck Road, stopped at a stop sign at that roadâs intersection with Main Street, police said.
The front end of a 1997 Honda van driven southward by Azeez Bhavnagarwala, 42, of 48 Farrell Road then rolled into the rear end of the Honda sedan, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Bhavnagarwala for following too closely.
Teachers Ridge Thefts
Sometime between 10:30 pm on October 15, and 8 am on October 16, someone stole several valuable items from two unlocked motor vehicles that were parked outdoors at a residence on Teachers Ridge Road, police report. That street is a dead-end road that extends from Schoolhouse Hill Road.
Among the items stolen were a Hewlett-Packard laptop computer, an electronic automotive navigation device, and a briefcase, police report.
Police urge that residents not leave valuable items in plain sight in unlocked vehicles in order to deter thefts. If valuables are left in vehicles, they should be placed within locked trunks out of sight, according to police.
Police ask anyone with information about the Teacher Ridge Road thefts to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
House Burglary
Police report that sometime between 2 pm on October 19, and 11:40 am on October 20, someone forcibly opened a garage door at a Platts Hill Road residence to burglarize the premises. The incident occurred near Platts Hill Roadâs intersection with White Oak Farm Road.
It is unclear if any items were stolen in the break-in, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact the detective unit of the police department.
Key Rock Crash
Police report a two-vehicle collision on a narrow, winding section of Key Rock Road about 8:22 am on October 20. The accident occurred near 44 Key Rock Road.
Motorist Lara Wheat, 31, of 2 Eden Hill Road was driving a 2008 Chrysler van southward, as motorist Alin Liu, 54, of 13 Roosevelt Drive was driving a 2009 Toyota sedan northward, police said.
Both vehicles were negotiating the same curve in the road, when the Chrysler crossed over the roadâs center line, colliding with the Toyota, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Wheat an infraction for failure to drive to the right.
Evading Responsibility
A motor vehicle accident occurred about 12:45 am on October 19, near 56 Pine Tree Hill Road in which the driver fled the scene, evading responsibility, according to police.
An unknown northbound vehicle on Pine Tree Hill Road struck both a utility pole and a curbside residential mailbox, police said.
That vehicle received rear-end damage in the collision. The offending vehicle has a deep, loud exhaust noise, according to police. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police who are investigating.
Youth Arrested
On October 21, police arrested a youth under age 18 on charges of third-degree assault and breach of peace in connection with an incident that occurred on the night of October 8 at the townâs Teen Center at 53 Church Hill Road.
Police responded to the Teen Center after that incident occurred and then started an investigation which led to the October 21 arrest.
Because the arrested youth is under age 18 his/her identity is shielded from disclosure by state law. The youth was released on a written promise to appear in closed court on November 8.
Dodgingtown Deer
Motorist James Fiorilla, 27, of Bethel was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV eastward near 56 Dodgingtown Road about 6:23 pm October 21, when the vehicle collided with a deer, police said.
The deer then ran off in the woods. Fiorilla was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Slippery Street
Motorist James P. OâConnor II of 5 Saw Mill Ridge Road was driving a 2000 Ford SUV northward on a wet Obtuse Road about 11 pm October 15, when the vehicle skidded on the pavement and went out of control, police said.
The Ford went off the right road shoulder and struck a tree, police said. OâConnor was not injured. Police said they verbally warned OâConnor for a motor vehicle violation.
Model Cars
Police report that sometime between October 10 and October 20, someone burglarized a garage at a Johnny Appleseed Drive residence and stole five Nitro-brand radio-controlled model cars.
The stolen goods are valued at $2,500. Police ask anyone with information on the theft to contact them.
Home Burglary
Police received a call about 7:13 pm on October 19, informing them that sometime that day, a home on Shepard Hill Road had been burglarized and various items, most of which were pieces of jewelry, had been stolen. Police listed no value for the missing items. Police are investigating the crime and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them.
Sandy Hook Thefts
Police report they received a number of complaints from Sandy Hook residents concerning a series of vandalism incidents and thefts of valuable items from unlocked motor vehicles, which had occurred during the early morning hours of October 23.
The incidents occurred on streets including Riverside Road, Berkshire Road, Toddy Hill Road, Still Hill Road, Hoseye Coach Road, and Marlin Road.
Police urge residents to keep their unattended vehicles locked and secured to deter theft. Also, police urge that residents report any suspicious activity to them.
Police ask anyone with information on the vandalism and thefts to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Failure To Respond
After learning that police held a warrant against her, Gwendolynn Eissman, 27, of 24 Wills Road turned herself over to police at the police station on the afternoon of October 24, and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, allowing a dog to roam, and failure to vaccinate a dog against rabies.
The charges stem from a past incident. Police released Eissman on $228 bail for a November 4 court appearance.
Vandalism
In a report of vandalism, police learned at about 5:35 pm October 23, that an unknown youth who was dressed in black threw a rock at a passing motor vehicle near the intersection of Marlin Road and New Lebbon Road.
After throwing the rock, the youth fled on foot into a wooded area, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the youthâs identity to contact them.
Theft From Vehicle
Police are investigating an incident in which someone sometime between 2 pm on October 22 and 11:15 am on October 23, entered a vehicle parked at a Dayton Street address and stole an automotive navigation unit, a cellphone charger, and about $15 in coins.
Police ask anyone with information on the crime to contact them.
DUI Arrest
Motorist Bruce McLaughlin, 71, of 14 Alberts Hill Road was driving a 2008 Honda sedan northward near 10 The Boulevard about 7:18 pm October 23, when the Honda struck the rear end of a parked, unoccupied 2009 Ford station wagon, according to police. McLaughlin was not injured.
In investigating the incident, police gave McLaughlin field sobriety tests.
Police then charged McLaughlin with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving without a license, and driving an unregistered vehicle.
After processing, McLaughlin was released on $500 bail for a November 9 court appearance.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant against him, Peter Lamonte, 52, of 67 Osborne Hill Road turned himself in at the police station on the morning of October 20 and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court, driving under suspension, and failure to drive in the proper lane, police said.
Newtown police said that the motor vehicle charges stem from a past incident in Avon. After he posted $500 bail, police released Lamonte for a November 3 appearance in Hartford Superior Court.
Motorcycle Crash
Motorcyclist Priestly Leng, 25, of Danbury was driving a 2007 Kawasaki EX-650-A westward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Saw Mill Road, about 7 am October 20, when a deer entered the road. The motorcycle and the deer collided, resulting in Leng being thrown from the motorcycle, police said.
Leng was wearing a helmet and protective clothing, police said. Town ambulance volunteers transported him to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said. There was no enforcement action.
Dodge Crash
Motorist Jeffrey Dorr, 47, of 53 Hanover Road, was driving a 2007 Dodge sedan westward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, about 8 pm October 17, when a deer ran onto the road in front of the auto, resulting in a collision, police said.
Dorr was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Buick Into Hillside
Motorist David Rey, Jr, no age given, of New Haven was driving a 1992 Buick sedan on Botsford Hill Road near the Housatonic Railroad overpass at about 10 pm October 24, when while negotiating a sharp curve in the road, the auto drove into a hillside, police said.
Rey was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, according to police. Police gave him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Two Accidents
About 10:30 am on October 17, motorist Thomas Paloian, 25, of 27 Botsford Hill Road was driving a 1999 Ford pickup truck northward on South Main Street, near Botsford Lane, when the truck was struck by a 2005 Ford SUV driven by Eric Palmer, 21, of 11 Stuart Drive, who was exiting a driveway, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Palmer an infraction for failure to yield the right of way.
Later at that accident scene, there was another accident involving a wrecker that had been called to the scene and a police patrol car, police said.
Police said that a 2010 Ford Crown Victoria police patrol car was parked unoccupied on Botsford Lane, where it was protecting the scene of the earlier accident.
Flatbed wrecker driver Nicholas Kopcik, 42, of 1 Short Hill Road, who was driving a 2000 Bering wrecker, was leaving the accident scene, when the left rear corner of the flatbed section of the wrecker grazed the trunk lid of the police car, causing minor damage, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Kopcik for unsafe movement.
NHS Crash
About 4:54 pm October 21, motorist Suzanne Gardner, 70, of 9 Taunton Ridge Road was driving a 2001 Chrysler station wagon eastward on Berkshire Road near Newtown High School, police said.
At that time, motorist Kimberly Statkevich, 33, of Shelton, who was driving a 2008 Toyota sedan, pulled out of the high schoolâs driveway to head eastward on Berkshire Road, police said.
The Chrysler then stopped suddenly on Berkshire Road and the Toyota struck the Chrysler from behind, police said. There were no injuries.
Police said they verbally warned Statkevich for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Breach Of Peace
Police report they arrested a youth on a warrant on October 23, charging that youth with breach of peace in connection with a June 10 incident. The youth was released on a written promise to appear in court on November 9. Because the person charged is under age 18, his/her identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.
Warrant
On October 25, police arrested Susan Eissman, 61, of 24 Wills Road on a warrant listing charges of failure to respond to an infraction, allowing a dog to roam, and having an unlicensed dog, police report. The charges stem from a January incident, police said. After she posted $167 bail, police released Eissman for a November 4 court appearance.
House Burglary
Police report that sometime between October 14 and October 23, someone burglarized a house on Great Ring Road, near its intersection with Lyrical Lane. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact the detective unit at 203-426-5841.
Warrant
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Oluwole O. Olugbile, 33, turned himself in at the police station on October 25 and was charged with evading responsibility and with failure to drive to the right in connection with a September 21 motor vehicle accident on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Great Quarter Road, police said. Police listed Waterbury and Danbury addresses for Olugbile.
In that accident, Olugbile was driving a 2009 Kia sedan and motorist John Eisele, 41, of 225 Berkshire Road was driving a 2008 Chevrolet pickup truck, police said. There were no injuries in that accident, according to police.
After processing on October 25, police released Olugbile on $100 bail for a November 3 court appearance.
Property Damage
About 9:45 am on October 24, police arrested Ethan Carotti, 19, of 86 Great Ring Road on a warrant, charging him with conspiracy to commit first-degree criminal mischief.
Police report the arrest stems from an incident involving intentional damage to curbside residential mailboxes and street signs in the Old Farm Hill Road area on July 29.
Following arrest processing, Carotti was released on $100 bail for a November 5 court appearance, police said.
Mailbox Found
Police report that a black residential mailbox, which bears the number 40 on both its sides, was found on October 25 near the intersection of Castle Hill Road and Old Castle Drive. The owner should contact Sergeant Douglas Wisentaner at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim the mailbox.
Drug Arrest
Police report that at about 4:39 pm on October 25, they spotted motorist Vincent Mitchell, 20, of Brookfield who was driving a 1997 Ford Escort 45 miles per hour in a posted 35-mph zone while traveling southward on Currituck Road, near Stony Brook Road, so they stopped him to investigate.
Police charged Mitchell with traveling too fast, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police released Mitchell on $1,000 bail for a November 9 court appearance.
