Taunton Plaza Event Benefits Breast Cancer Foundation

By Eliza Hallabeck

By midafternoon on Sunday, October 17, Klickers Hair Studio owner Toni Ribeiro, said, “I think we are doing well,” as a cut-a-thon to raise funds for the National Breast Cancer Foundation went on behind her.

From 11 am until 4 pm haircuts were $15 each, tips were donated, and pick balloons and signs encouraged drivers passing the Taunton Hill Plaza on Mt Pleasant Road to stop and donate money.

Nicholas Ribeiro, Alex Rodrigues, and Lucas Rodrigues all stood outside collecting donations, and waving signs to support the cause.

Next door, UK Gourmet donated more than ten percent of its proceeds from the day to the cause, and pink scones and tea were served to guests.

A raffle was also held for a grand prize that includes a $25 gift certificate to Taunton Wines & Liquors along with items from Klickers and UK Gourmet. In addition, Ms Ribeiro will be selling paper hearts for $5 each all month, with proceeds from that to also benefit the breast cancer foundation. Big Y Supermarket also donated food to serve to guests for the day.

After the fundraiser, Ms Ribeiro said the day raised almost $1,000.

“I think everyone was very generous that day,” said Ms Ribeiro.
