To the Editor:

I have never been so proud of my father as I have been over the past two months. George Ferguson is one of the most intelligent, caring, and personable people I have ever encountered, and I am confident that he will win the race for Newtown’s state representative.

As a husband, father and businessman, my dad has been around the block a few times, proving himself every time he faced a challenge. He is one of the most hardworking people I know, juggling a family, his own business, and holding several positions on boards in Newtown. His qualifying for the Citizen’s Election Fund in a record-breaking ten days proves that he is well-liked and has a can-do attitude.

George Ferguson is a well-educated man, but he is open-minded and always eager to learn. He has taught his three children many valuable life lessons, including the value of a dollar and the importance of being fiscally responsible.

Before she passed away last year, my dad looked out for my grandmother, not just taking care of her, but fulfilling her every whim, just as he has done for my mom, sister, brother, and me. You may recall the children’s book The Giving Tree, by Shel Silverstein. My father earned the nickname “The Giving Tree” for his commitment to his family and doing what is in our best interests. This is a commitment that I know he will make to the residents of Newtown.

My father has always been my role model, but as I have matured, he has become one of my best friends as well. Now that I am older I can see the effect he has on people, how comfortable people seem to be when speaking with him. He is wise, honest, and has already shown his commitment to the people and Town of Newtown. He does this because he sincerely wants to make a difference for our community.

So please, Newtown, join me on November 2 in supporting George Ferguson and make him Newtown’s very own “Giving Tree.”
