He may be my dad and some may say Iâm biased, but I couldnât think of a better person to represent Newtown than George Ferguson. Since our familyâs move here in 2002, he has embraced the history, the culture, and the country air that encompasses Newtown, things that our old home, in New York, greatly lacked. In high school, when my dad would drive my siblings and me to our multitude of activities, heâd pepper the conversation with anecdotes about the town, about old houses that used to be schoolhouses, or facts about where and when a historical event occurred. He was impressed by Newtown and made every effort to learn about and celebrate his new home, never failing to share his newfound knowledge with others.
George Ferguson is a role model. His devotion to his family, his friends, his career, and this town knows no limits, and the passion he puts forth in every aspect of his life never ceases to amaze me. Whenever I have a question I need answered, I know a highly detailed response can be found in my dad. When Iâm unsure of myself and need a boost, I know that Iâll find encouragement and support in my dad. When Iâve left something until the last minute, a project or a paper, when Iâve needed it to be revised or edited, or even when Iâve just wanted a friend to kick the soccer ball around with me, I know that I can call on my dad. My dad is loved by many, for his charisma, his kind heart and his wonderful character, for his work ethic, his intelligence, and his enthusiasm. For each of these reasons, my dad has been my go-to guy growing up. For these same reasons, George Ferguson should be Newtownâs next go-to guy, as state representative in Hartford.
