More Hands Needed To Help Complete Playground Project

Volunteers are needed for this weekend to continue construction of the second Treadwell Park playground.

The Newtown Lions Club and the Treadwell Park Committee are looking for additional volunteers to help build the playground for use by children aged 6 through 12. O’Brien & Sons, which markets landscape structures, will have three technicians on the site to direct construction, but more than 30 volunteers are needed.

The work started last weekend and is scheduled to be finished this weekend, but not without a lot of help. “There were more than enough volunteers signed up for the first Saturday,” said Gordon Williams, co-chairman of the project for the Lions Club, “but for this weekend we are really short.” No special skills are required to volunteer, he noted. “We have lots of chiefs. We just need Indians.”

The project coordinators are also looking for the specialized kind of mulch used on playgrounds. Also, in addition to volunteers to help assemble, others are needed to provide coffee, snacks, and lunch as well as babysitting services.

To volunteer in any capacity, call co-chairmen Tammy Marks at 426-5333 or Gordon Williams at 426-6443.
