Scholarships Info At NHS Career Center

Information and applications for the following Scholarships are available on the Newtown High School Career Center:

Ayn Rand Essay Contest – This scholarship is available to students in grades nine through 12; $62,000 in prize money, top prize $10,000, 502 total prizes. Entry deadline for ninth and tenth grade students is March 18, 2002. Entry deadline for 11th and 12th grade students is April 15, 2002. Winners will be notified by June 4, 2002. Topics for the essays are available in the Career Center. More information is also available on line at www.aynrand.org/contest.

The American Legion National High School Oratorical Contest – for students under the age of 20 years on the date of the National Contest and who are presently enrolled in a high school or junior high school. The subject to be used for the Prepared Oration must be on some phase of the Constitution of the United States that will give emphasis to the attendant duties and obligations of a citizen to our government. State winners advance to national competition. Detailed written instructions are available in the Career Center. Deadline determined by Local Legion Post. High School Christian Student/Athlete All American Award – This $900 award is to reward junior or senior Christian student/athletes for their athletic accomplishments (conference, state, or national level), academic achievements, and boldness to impact their generation through a life of Christian character. Each athlete must meet ten criteria to receive a nomination. GPA must be 2.8 or higher. Anyone interested must see Mrs McEvoy in the Career Center and submit a nomination form to their coach. All nominations must be submitted by Friday, November 23, 2001. For more information, www.aogn.org.
