The Elves Fair Is A Big, Special Day For Little People

The Elves Fair will be in full swing again this year on Saturday, November 17, from 10 am to 3 pm, at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown. The fair is hosted by the Housatonic Valley Waldorf School. Admission and parking are free.

A charming alternative to the usual commercial fair, the Elves Fair features handmade natural gifts, children’s activities, a children’s secret shopper room, and puppet shows. A diverse selection of wholesome foods will be served.

There is something for everyone. For children, the ever-popular Elves Workshop will keep them busy as elves creating their very own handmade crafts including beeswax candles, decorative candleholders, tooth fairy boxes and decorated cookies.

Children can also visit the Secret Shopping Room, without their parents of course, to search for and wrap a special holiday gift that will be treasured forever. This year’s fair also features children’s face painting and, back by popular demand, the Pocket Man sporting pockets full of surprises for children.

For adults, there will be a large selection of handmade natural crafts, clothing, dolls, toys and gifts, pottery, finger puppets, fleece Mother Earth dolls, beeswax candles and beeswax, and Christmas wreaths.

Fairgoers can also enjoy a gourmet lunch of healthful natural favorites such as hearty soups, salads, whole grain breads and sandwiches. The bake sale will feature a selection of breads, cakes, cookies and brownies.

The Elves Fair is one of the biggest fundraisers for the not-for-profit Housatonic Valley Waldorf School Association, which offers Waldorf-inspired schooling for children in preschool through eighth grade. For more information about the Elves Fair, call the school at 364-1113.
