To The Editor:

When we elect the Town Clerk and the First Selectman we are really hiring them. These are paid positions. They answer to the voters, they cannot be fired. If they are not doing their job, the only action available to us, the people that hired them, is to not reelect them when their term is up. The only way for them to not fulfill and not be paid for any part of their term is if they quit. The state of Connecticut does not have a recall provision allowing termination.

What do I look for in an employee:

I want someone that shows up to work and does their job.

I want someone that realizes we are public servants and are here to serve the community.

I want someone that realizes everyone makes mistakes and double checks. If a mistake is made it is corrected completely and quickly.

I want someone qualified.

I do not want someone that believes they are entitled and doing the community a favor.

I would love a person that has a passion for the job and they realize the importance the job is to our community.

For these reasons and many others, I support Renee Weimann for Town Clerk. She is qualified, present, helpful and she is out there going door to door working hard to gain your support. She is willing to continue doing the work for us and I am very grateful for the almost two decades of service, in the Town Clerk’s office, she has given this community already.
