Jim Landy, Running For Board Of Finance
To The Editor:
Hi, I’m Jim Landy, running for Board of Finance, because Newtown’s money deserves a watchdog, not wishful thinking and wasteful spending.
My family and I have proudly called Newtown home since 2019. My wife, Bridget, and I chose this community to raise our son, Liam, because of the excellent schools, the welcoming neighborhoods, and the strong sense of community that sets Newtown apart.
I bring more than 30 years of experience in compliance, auditing, and financial oversight. Throughout my career, I have held companies accountable, safeguarded financial integrity, and ensured that money is managed responsibly. As a Certified Fraud Examiner, I believe facts, transparency, and accountability must guide every financial decision.
I currently serve as a Board Member of the Fairfield Hills Authority, now in my second term. In that role, I have worked to protect taxpayer interests and preserve community benefits. For example, I’ve reviewed incoming business proposals; including a charity’s state financial filings. I identified its proposal lacked adequate funding, which would have shifted significant costs onto Newtown residents. I also wrote the proposal that preserved the Fairfield Hills pickleball courts, keeping a popular and accessible recreational resource available to residents of all ages.
I’m running because I love Newtown. I believe in fiscal responsibility that protects taxpayers and keeps our town affordable for every resident. Serving you as a member of the Board of Finance, I will closely examine budgets, eliminate waste, and ensure that Newtown is managed efficiently and effectively. I am committed to protecting our seniors, veterans, and working families from poor management and wasteful spending of our tax dollars. I will continue to support vital community assets such as Fairfield Hills, our Senior and Community Centers, while planning for growth in a way that preserves our small-town character and strengthens the quality of life we all cherish. Newtown should always remain a wonderful place to live, learn, and grow.
I respectfully ask for your vote. Together, we can ensure that Newtown’s finances remain strong, accountable, and focused on what matters most: the people who call this incredible town home.
Jim Landy
