To The Editor:

I am writing this letter in support of my husband, Derek Pisani, who is seeking re-election to the Legislative Council.

Having spent over thirty years in the financial sector and reaching the level of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for multi-million dollar hedge funds, Derek is well qualified to serve on the council. Not only does he bring a lot of pragmatic business acumen to the table, he also earned a master’s in music and studied at The Juilliard School. His diverse background gives him a unique and creative perspective on how to best navigate the town’s affairs.

When he retired, I encouraged him to volunteer and be of service in the community. That is what he did. After serving on the Sustainable Energy Commission, he ran and was elected to serve on the LC. While Derek is not big on formalities, he is big on solving problems. He is a good negotiator and is always willing to find a way to compromise. I understand some people may not get his sense of humor, but I can assure you that he genuinely cares deeply and only wants only the best for the residents of Newtown and will not shy away from speaking out for what he believes is right.

Derek also has high moral standards; higher than the acceptable standards of today and because he is spiritual, he struggles with some of the predispositions that are taking place in Newtown. For example, he was strongly against putting pornographic materials in the library.

He takes serving on the counsel very seriously. Ask him how many people can’t afford their taxes or how many people rely upon the food pantry to put food on their table, and he will provide a quick answer. He is truly trying to make Newtown affordable while not degrading the services the town provides, including keeping a high standard in our school system.

I hope you will support and vote for my husband Derek Pisani. He always puts Newtown First.
