For his Senior Capstone project, in conjunction with his role as Newtown High School varsity baseball captain, Jack Carta organized and executed a youth home run derby fundraiser in support of Everytown Foundation, which is fighting to end gun violence, this fall. The Newtown Home Run Derby took place at Glander Baseball Complex and was open to youth players in the 10U and 12U age groups, featuring free T-shirts and prizes for the winners.

There was strong participation and community turnout on a beautiful fall day. Each participant got eight outs to try and go yard. In the 10U age group, Jacob Morrell was the big winner with 13 homers. Chris Fairbairn was the champ in the 12U age group with ten homers. Each winner received a full-sized, custom engraved trophy bat from Tucci Limited in addition to a gift card good for one free custom designed Tucci game bat.

In the end, all the participants had a blast, and thanks to registration, corporate donations, and community support, Carta raised over $1,500 for Everytown Foundation.
