Hawleyville, Newtown Hook & Ladder, and Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire companies, along with Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps and Newtown Police, all responded to an incident on Sawmill Road the morning of Thursday, October 23. Construction workers were replacing a driveway bridge at Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints that had been washed out in the storm of August 18, 2024. One of the workers was inside the dump truck, and became pinned between the tailgate and the bucket of the excavator. First responders companies were able to extricate the severely injured man from the dump truck and transported him to Danbury Hospital. —Donna Ball photo
