Sandy Hook Crash

About 7 am October 26, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Route 34 and Pole Bridge Road in Sandy Hook.

Motorist Christian Wenis, 35, of 16 Tomahawk Trail, who was driving a 1994 Chevrolet K-15 southward on Pole Bridge Road, stopped at a stop sign at that road’s intersection with Route 34, according to police.

At that time, motorist Lynn Fortier, 58, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Venture van, was heading westward on Route 34, police said.

The K-15 then turned right onto westbound Route 34 and collided with van. There were no injuries. Police issued Wenis a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Drug Charges

Police report they charged two Monroe residents with drug violations at Sand Hill Plaza on the night of October 29.

While on patrol at the shopping plaza at 228 South Main Street at about 9:30 pm, police were flagged down by a passerby who told them that a person inside a white truck parked near Super Stop & Shop might be having a medical emergency.

Police said they investigated, but found no medical emergency. A search turned up some brown and white substances which tested positive as narcotics, police said.

Police charged Raymond Kobza, 36, and Melissa Mackey, 26, each with possession of narcotics and with possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were released on bail for November 15 appearances in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure To Appear

Southbury police arrested a New Milford woman on a Newtown police arrest warrant on the afternoon of October 30.

Newtown police said Jacey Powers, 25, was arrested on a charge of failure to appear in court in connection with a June 15 motor vehicle incident. Powers was also arrested on charges of driving under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, failure to display a marker plate, driving without automotive insurance, and misuse of marker plates.

After processing, Powers was released for a November 15 court appearance.

Pouch Found

A small black leather pouch was found in a parking lot at Reed Intermediate School at Fairfield Hills on October 27, according to police. Police are holding the item for safekeeping. The owner may claim the item in by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Church Hill Collision

About 12:17 pm October 28, motorist Louise Mularick, 85, of Southbury, who was driving a 2003 Pontiac sedan, was attempting to make a left turn from 61 Church Hill Road onto eastbound Church Hill Road, as motorist Lynele Wright, 23, of Danbury was driving a 2001 Mitsubishi sedan westward there, police said.

The two sedans collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Mularick a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Poverty Hollow Deer

Motorist Susan Miller, 35, of 21 Park Lane, who was driving a 2004 Chrysler Town & Country minivan southward near 121 Poverty Hollow Road, encountered a deer that had run into her path at about 8 am October 26, police said. The minivan and the deer collided. Miller was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Trucks Hits Wall

Trucker Hardyman Nelson, 43, of Danbury was driving a 2004 Sterling truck from Buttonball Drive onto Pine Street at about 3:10 pm October 24, when the truck struck a stone wall at 19 Pine Street, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Nelson a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Bridge End Farm Lane

Motorist Andrea Portanova, 20, of 4 Thomas Circle, who was driving a 2000 Nisan Altima northward on Bridge End Farm Lane about 3:41 am October 28, apparently fell asleep at the wheel and then hit a flower planter and mailbox at 15 Bridge End Farm Lane, crossed the street and then hit a rock garden and mailbox at 16 Bridge End Farm lane, police said.

Portanova experienced shoulder pain and was transported by ambulance volunteers to Danbury Hospital to be checked. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident scene.

Portanova received an infraction ticket for making an improper turn, police said.

South Main Crash

About 3:40 pm October 27, motorist Franz Klotz, 56, of Stamford, who was driving a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck southward on South Main Street, slowed for traffic near Swamp Road, police said.

Southbound motorist Christopher Daniel, 45, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1996 Mitsubishi Galant, then struck the Chevrolet from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police gave Klotz a written warning for failure to have functioning brake lamps. Police issued Daniel a written warning for following too closely.

SUV Vs SUV

Police report an accident involving two sport-utility vehicles about 4 pm October 27 on Mt Pleasant Road, just east of its intersection with Hawleyville Road.

Motorist Yolanda Nunez, 41, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Outlander, rolled forward into the rear end of a stopped 2000 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Michael Grandel, 17, of Brookfield, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Nunez for following too closely.

I-84 DUI Arrest

State police said they encountered a vehicle parked on the off-ramp at Exit 10 of westbound Interstate 84 at about 11:45 pm October 29, so they investigated.

Police charged the driver, Patricia Key, 45, of Brookfield with driving under the influence and with illegal parking. State police released Key on $1,000 bail for an appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Interstate Incident

In heavy traffic about 8 am October 27, motorist Richard Manville, Jr, 48, of Southbury was driving on the road shoulder of westbound Interstate 84 between the Exit 10 off-ramp and on-ramp, state police said. Also, Manville intentionally struck a Southington man’s vehicle and forced it off the road, state police said. There were no injuries.

State police arrested Manville on charges of breach of peace, second degree reckless endangerment, and driving on the road’s shoulder.

After Manville posted $1,500 bail, state police released him for court arraignment on the charges on November 1.

I-84 Drugs

State police report that after stopping a vehicle at about 1 pm October 24 on westbound Interstate 84, west of West 11, motorist Jason Goncalves, 21, of Waterbury allowed them to search the vehicle.

That search turned up some contraband, state police said, adding that they charged Goncalves with possession of steroids, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After processing the arrest, state police released Goncalves on $500 bail for a November 7 court appearance.

Ford Vs Saab

Midafternoon on October 30, motorist Gayle Addyman, 57, of 48 Queen Street, who was driving a 2002 Ford Focus, was turning right from a driveway at 151 South Main Street to head northward on that road, when the Ford collided with a northbound 1995 Saab 900-SE driven by Benjamin Mattarolo, 20, of 73 Castle Hill Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Addyman a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Honda Accident

Motorist Ashley Yost, 23, of Ansonia was driving a 1992 Honda Accord westward on Berkshire Road, near the Monroe town line, in daylight on October 27, when for an unknown reason, the vehicle struck some guardrailing, crossed the road, and then struck a tree, police report.

Yost reported general pain, police said. The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported her to Danbury Hospital to be checked. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the accident. Police said the accident is under investigation.

Rear-Ender

Motorist John Lewis, 57, of Oxford, who was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima, stopped at a red traffic signal at the end of westbound Interstate 84’s Exit 10 off-ramp at about 6:18 am November 2, police report.

The Nissan then started to make a right turn on red onto westbound Church Hill Road, but then stopped due to traffic conditions, police said. Motorist Anita Canfield, 57, of Southbury, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet station wagon, then struck the Nissan from behind, police said.

Ambulance volunteers examined Lewis at the scene for a minor injury, police said. Police issued Canfield an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Warrant

On November 1, police arrested David Eisenbach, 38, of 55 Sugar Street on a warrant charging him with violation of a restraining order. Police said Eisenbach was scheduled to be arraigned on the charge on November 2 in Danbury Superior Court.
