To The Editor,

While the election results did not lead to a victory for my campaign, I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Bruce Walczak on his successful campaign for First Selectman. I wish him the very best as he prepares to take office and serve the citizens of Newtown. I know that we share a deep commitment to the future and well-being of our community, and I look forward to working together with both him and Paul Lundquist on the Board of Selectmen on the critical issues facing our Town. I look forward to contributing my experience and perspective to the Board’s ongoing work to help maintain the quality of life we all cherish.

I also want to recognize my running mate, Charlie Gardner. His dedication, insightful ideas, and tireless effort throughout the campaign were invaluable. The important issues and constructive proposals he championed will certainly be a focal point for consideration by the Board of Selectmen and the entire town leadership over the next two years.

To the voters who placed their trust in me — whether you cast your ballot early or on Election Day — thank you. Working to earn your support energized me every single day. While we may disagree on the path forward, the true strength of our community lies in the passion and engagement of its citizens.

More importantly, I want to take this opportunity to thank the truly incredible coalition of people who powered our campaign. To my campaign managers, team, and tireless volunteers: you dedicated countless hours, we knocked on hundreds of doors, and made hours of phone calls, all driven by a shared belief in our vision. Your commitment, enthusiasm, and sacrifice were nothing short of inspiring. We built something special, and I am eternally grateful for your friendship and dedication.

The election may be over, but the work of building a better Newtown continues. I look forward to remaining an active participant in our civic life, advocating for the issues that matter most to all of us. Let’s move forward together, focused on common ground and dedication to serving the place we call home.

Jeff Capeci
