Celebrate ‘Christmas In The Country’

At St Rose School

By Larissa Lytwyn

St Rose School Home & School Association is sponsoring its 17th annual “Christmas in the Country” Craft Fair November 7, 6 to 10 pm; November 8, 10 am to 5 pm; and November 9, 10 am to 2 pm, at the St Rose Parish Hall.

“We always have a great turnout,” said Craft Fair Chairperson Beth O’Keefe. In her third year of heading the event, Ms O Keefe said the help of parents, staff, students, and the Newtown community was integral to its ongoing success. “We have several new vendors this year, from local jewelry makers and artisans to a selection of American Girl doll clothing,” she said.

Much of the jewelry is handcrafted from silver, glass, and polymer clay. A bounty of folk art, from carefully chiseled wall hangings to hand-painted furniture, will also be available. Holiday lovers can peruse an extensive collection of snowmen, Santa and angel figurines, dolls and ornaments, care of the Newtown Junior Women’s Club. “They’ve participated just about every year,” said Ms O’Keefe.

Children’s craft kits and handmade wood toys, from blocks to trains, will also be on sale. Children can also enjoy “Grab Bag Bingo,” an activity Ms O’Keefe describes as “always a winner.” Religious items, such as rosary beads, cards, and stationary depicting local landmarks and historical sites and even handmade candles will also be presented.

Eighth grade sewing classes, taught by parent Edna Fry, also wove baby blankets especially for the event. “We have a lot of parents and grandparents that make and contribute items,” said Ms O’Keefe. These items range from handcrafted accessories to mouthwatering delicacies and uniquely assembled gift baskets. “The gift baskets are raffled off,” said Ms O’Keefe.

A bake table with homemade pies, cakes, breads and candies also returns. Breakfast, lunch, and snack vendors will also be on hand throughout fair hours.

For more information, contact Ms O’Keefe at 270-8126 or 240-3215.
