Alcohol Charges

Police report that they observed two 17-year-old youths loading some alcohol into the trunk of their vehicle near 22 Church Hill Road on the evening of October 30, after which they investigated the circumstances of the situation.

Police said they issued an infraction to each youth on a charge of illegal possession of alcohol by a minor. Additionally, police issued written warnings to each youth for possession of alcohol by a minor in a motor vehicle.

Both youths were released into the custody of their parents pending the resolution of their cases, police said.

State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with such offenses.

Gas Station

Danielle Carlson, 29, of Washington, Penn., who was driving a 2005 GMC truck about 6 pm November 2 at the Shell gas station/convenience store at 67 Church Hill Road, struck a metal pole in the gas station’s parking lot, damaging the pole, police said.

Carlson was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Currituck Road

While on radar speed patrol on Currituck Road about 5:20 pm November 2, police stopped motorist Eileen Fish, 47, of 4 Fawnwood Road, who was driving a 2000 Ford Windstar minivan, in order to investigate.

Police said they charged Fish with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving while under suspension. Fish was released on $100 bail for a November 10 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.

Alpine Drive

Sometime overnight on October 28/29 someone stole some undisclosed equipment that had been left on the storage bed of a pickup truck parked on Alpine Drive in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook, police report. They are investigating the loss.

Honda Coupe

Motorist Amy Dutkanicz, 27, of Seymour, who was driving a 2008 Honda Accord coupe northward near 85 South Main Street about 10:22 pm November 1, encountered a deer that had run onto the street, police said.

The auto and the deer collided. Dutkanicz was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Jaguar Vs Toyota

About 12:08 pm October 31, an unidentified motorist who was driving a noncontact vehicle southward on South Main Street stopped and was waiting for traffic to clear in order to make a left turn onto Prospect Drive, police said.

Southbound motorist Alan Aubin, 51, of Seymour, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla, then stopped behind the noncontact vehicle, police said.

Southbound motorist Suzanne Sorensen, 60, of Iowa, who was driving a 2004 Jaguar X-type sedan, then struck the rear end of the Toyota, police said.

There were no injuries. Sorensen received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Wasserman Way

Motorist Richard Samuelson, 46, of 27 Bonnie Brae Drive, who was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan minivan, was traveling westward near 11 Mile Hill Road about 4:30 pm October 29, when a deer entered the roadway, police said.

The minivan and the deer collided. Samuelson was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

 

Chevrolet Vs Audi

Police report a two-car collision at the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road about 6:25 pm October 30.

Motorist Daniel Reidel, 53, of Middlebury was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala southward on South Main Street, as motorist Peter D’Amico, 62, of 20 Silver City Road was driving a 2006 Audi A-6 sedan northward on South Main Street, police said.

The Chevrolet then attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Mile Hill Road, police said. The two vehicles collided.

Reidel stated that he had a green arrow on the traffic signal there, allowing him to make the left turn, police said. D’Amico stated he had a green signal and was proceeding straight through the intersection, according to police.

Ambulance volunteers evaluated Reidel for injuries at the scene and did not transport him, police said. Hook & Ladder firefighters went to the accident.

Police said they issued Reidel a written warning for a traffic violation.

MV Charges

Police said they observed motorist John Carney, 19, of 7 Curry Drive passing by a number of motor vehicles while he was traveling on the right road shoulder near 12 Berkshire Road at about 3:15 pm November 1, so they stopped Carney to investigate.

Police charged Carney with illegal passing on the right and with driving with a suspended license.

Carney was released on $100 bail for a November 18 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Bridgeport Man

Police report that they responded to a complaint that a driver was tailgating another motorist on westbound Berkshire Road at about 11:13 pm October 31, so they went to the area to investigate.

Police said they spotted the tailgating motorist and stopped him on Wasserman Way.

Police then charged Andrew Banner, 40, of Bridgeport with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, with a travel lane violation, and with driving with a suspended license.

Banner was released on a written promise to appear in court on November 14 to answer the charges.

DUI Arrest

About 3:30 pm November 3, police stopped a motorist who was driving a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee on Sugar Street for having made a restricted turn, they said.

After investigating, police charged motorist Andrew Silbernagel, 39, of Bethel with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. After he posted $500 bail, police released Silbernagel for a November 14 court appearance.

Probation Charges

Police report they charged William Benson, 53, of 7 Meadow Brook Road on warrants listing two counts of violation of probation in connection with past incidents. Police made the arrest on the night of November 3.

Police held Benson on $100,000 bail overnight for arraignment on the charges on November 4 in Danbury Superior Court.

 I-84 Accident

Motorist Diana Patton, 21, of Danbury was driving a 2004 Honda Accord eastward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 1:21 am November 1, when she lost control of the vehicle and went off the right side of the road, striking some guard cabling, state police said.

Patton was not injured. Information on possible enforcement action was not available.

Evading Responsibility

Police said they received a report of a motor vehicle accident that occurred about 8:55 am November 4 at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Trades Lane at Fairfield Hills, in which the offending driver left the scene without stopping.

Police said trucker Douglas Griffin, 34, of Watertown was driving a large 2004 Freightliner FL-70 truck that caused a collision at that intersection with a 2002 Honda Civic driven by Susan Allison, 58, of Woodbury. There were no injuries, police said.

After the impact, Griffin drove the truck away from the scene. Police said they located Griffin more than two miles away on Sugar Street, near a road construction site at Deep Brook.

After investigating, police charged Griffin with evading responsibility and with failure to obey traffic signs and markings.

Police released Griffin from their custody on $40 bail for a November 18 court appearance.

Pontiac Vs Honda

A two-vehicle collision occurred on Wasserman Way, near the entrance to the commuter parking lot for Exit 11 of Interstate 84 , about 12:15 pm October 31.

Motorist Lansing Bennett, 18, of 7 Gray’s Plain Road was driving a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix sedan westward on Wasserman Way, as motorist Elizabeth Ferrarri, 43, of Brookfield was driving a 2003 Honda Civic sedan eastward there, police said.

The Pontiac then started to make a left turn to enter the commuter parking lot, but in doing so went into the Honda’s path of travel, resulting in a collision, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Ferrarri to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Police issued Bennett an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way.

Hyundai Hits Deer

Motorist Thomas Sheehan, 52, of Bethel was driving a 2008 Hyundai Sonata sedan westward on Mt Pleasant Road near Tory Lane about 5 pm November 5, when a deer ran out onto the road in front of the auto, resulting in a collision, police said. Sheehan was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Hazardous Area

Police report yet another collision in a hazardous area on Church Hill Road known for its high accident rate at about 5:37 pm November 3.

Motorist Jose Moniz, 44, of Hanover Road was driving a 2008 Audi sedan eastward near 66 Church Hill Road in a right-turn-only lane in preparing to turn right onto the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, police said.

At that time, motorist Patrick McNulty, 18, of Hilldale Drive was driving a 2005 Mazda sedan carrying four teenage passengers westward on Church Hill Road in preparing to turn left into the driveway entrance of the Blue Colony Diner, police said.

Police said that McNulty had told them that an eastbound noncontact vehicle in a straight-ahead lane had yielded to allow him to make a left turn.

As the Mazda was making the left turn, it collided with the Audi. There were no injuries.

Police issued McNulty a written warning for making a restricted turn and for failure to carry a driver’s license.
