GBYO To Perform First Concert Of The Season, Nov. 16
BRIDGEPORT â The Greater Bridgeport Youth Orchestras (GBYO) will perform its first concert of the fall season on Sunday, November 16, at 3 pm, at Klein Auditorium in Bridgeport. The concert will include performances by the four ensembles of the GBYO.
Christopher Hisey, music director for the organization, will conduct the Principal Orchestra in Schubertâs Unfinished Symphony, Orpheus in the Underworld by Jacques Offenbach, and Beethovenâs Egmont Overture.
The Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Leo Ficks will perform another Schubert work, âMenuettoâ from Symphony No. 5, a movement from Tchaikovskyâs Symphony No. 5, plus âItâs About Timeâ an arrangement of Dave Brubeck tunes by Chuck Sayre.
Dorothy Straub will lead the Concert Orchestra in works by Bizet, Martin Rutherford and A.G. Villoldo.
The String Orchestra, conducted by Carrie Mascaro, will present a Telemann Partita, Hansel and Gretel by Humperdinck and a Bohemian Dance by Dvorak.
At the concert, GBYO will also raffle a one-of-a-kind, museum quality quilt, designed and made by GBYO parent Wendy Hedin of Newtown. Valued at $1,000, only 500 tickets are available, at $10 each, and may be purchased at the concert or by contacting Barb Upton, GBYO Executive Director, at 203-452-0003.
Tickets for the November 16 concert are $15 for adults and $10 for students and seniors, and may be purchased at the Klein Auditorium after 2 pm on the day of performance or by contacting GBYO Executive Director, Barbara Upton at 203-459-4249.
