Hurricanes Win Baseball Championship

The Newtown Hurricanes defeated Newtown Team Number Three 6-5 in the 8-9 Division Baseball Championship game, recently. In the top of  the first, Owen McInerney recorded his first double of the season and drove in Alex Johanesen Jr. for the Hurricanes. Team Three responded with two runs for a 2-1 lead. The Hurricanes tied the score in the second when Vijay Makayee sacrificed to drive in Zach Laros. Team Three team answered to retake the lead 3-2. In the third inning, Spencer Johnson and Dylan Tyrrell stole home to score two runs and put the Hurricanes in the lead 4-3. In the fourth inning, Cole Terry stole home for a 5-3 lead, but Team Three got to within 5-4 in the bottom of the inning. In the top of the fifth, the Hurricanes took a 6-4 lead when Johnson singled to drive Johanesen Jr. home. Once again, Team Three closed the gap by scoring in the fifth. Tyrrell struck out three in a row to close the game. Johanesen Jr., Joshua Headen, Zach Laros, Cole Terry, and Charles Soto all had singles and Zach Anderson played well in the win. Luke Reppucci made a great stop at second and threw out the runner at first base. Catcher Owen McInerney threw to Makayee to tag out a runner attempting to steal third. Catcher Joshua Headen tracked down a passed ball and threw to Johnson, the pitcher, who tagged out a runner at the plate.  Pitchers Johnson, Johanesen  Jr. and Tyrrell pitched well in the win.
