Recognition Reception

The Newtown Service Unit of the Salvation Army will host a Recognition Reception on Sunday, November 16, in the Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall.

The reception will run from noon until 2 pm, and refreshments will be served.

Co-chairmen are Sylvia Poulin and Marie Sturdevant. Betsy Gaier, the Newtown Service Unit president, extends an invitation to anyone interested in learning about the Salvation Army to visit the reception. Marjorie Vrabel, the Hartford Service Unit representative for Newtown, will make a presentation at 1 about the works and services of the Salvation Army.

Bill ringers for the Service Unit, those who volunteer their time to ring bells during the holiday season, will also be recognized during the reception.

Money collected in kettles set up outside CVS, Dunkin’ Donuts, Pizza Palace, Super Stop & Shop, and Yankee Discount Wine & Liquors during the holidays is spent solely on Newtown residents who are in need of help. Food, dental, and doctor bills, fuel and clothing are just some of the ways this money is used.

The backbone of the Salvation Army is volunteers. Bell ringing will be held this year the weekends of December 12–13 and 19–20, and volunteers are still needed to staff the kettles in one-hour increments. Signup sheets will be available during the reception, but anyone interested in volunteering can also contact either Mrs Poulin at 426-0638 or Mrs Sturdevant at 740-2733 to sign up for a time slot.

Reservations are requested for the reception. Contact Mrs Poulin or Mrs Sturdevant for that as well.
