Boy Scout Troop 370 and Cub Scout Pack 170, which are affiliated with Newtown United Methodist Church at 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, plan to construct a shed on the church grounds.

People connected with the project participated in groundbreaking ceremonies there on November 2.

The scouts will use the shed to house their trailer and various camping gear.

The detached two-story shed, which was designed by architect Thomas Milano, will be built in the style of a barn. It will be located just west of the church parking lot. Several trees will need to be felled to make way for the shed.

The shed is intended to provide a permanent storage location for the various gear owned by the troop and the pack, according to Rob Sibley, shed project spokesman.

The Scouts plan to have dedication ceremonies for the slab-on-grade wooden shed next June.
