Cosmic Jibaros & Breakfast To Play At ETH, Nov. 18
WPKN radio will bring music to Edmond Town Hall again next weekend, with a benefit concert being performed by Cosmic Jibaros and The Breakfast.
Tickets for the Friday, November 18 concert are $20 general admission. All proceeds from the concert will benefit WPKN, the Bridgeport-based non-profit listener supported radio station (89.5 FM).
The evening kicks off with Cosmic Jibaros, who promise social awareness taking on a certain power when mixed with pulsating rhythm. The Bridgeport-based band embodies this creed; the seven-piece Latin rock unit will often cause emphatic dance and curious ponder at the same time.
Puerto Rico born and Bridgeport raised Ricardo Reyes fronts the band with a vocal and lyrical depth that powerfully communicate both in Spanish and English. Behind him lie the furious rhythm unit of veteran percussionist Tony Cintron (Spyro Gyra, Ruben Blades), conguero Jonny Durkin (Deep Banana Blackout, John Scofield), and soulful drummer Chris Stanley (A Better Way), all whom seamlessly groove with the thunderous bottom end provided by Norwalk musician Juan Carlos Vega (Four Sticks) on bass and New Haven rocker Tony Senés on piano, organ and accordion. The multi-talented singer, songwriter and lead guitarist Darian Cunning rounds out the lineup with his unique, ambient style that encompasses Caribbean, Afro beat, Jazz, and Rock.
The evening will continue with the Jammy Award-winning band The Breakfast. The Breakfast is currently touring in support of their latest studio release, Real Radio (Horizon Music Group, 2005), and is poised to break into a much larger market. The album features harder edged driving funk tunes and blazing musicianship from guitarist Tim Palmieri, bassist Ron Spears, Jordan Giangreco on keys and drummer Adrian Tramontano. Guest appearances on Real Radio include the Addison Groove horns, Jen Hartswick (Trey Anastasio) and guitarist Jeff Pevar.
Tickets can be purchased online at wpkn.org or at any of the following locations: Newtown General Store, Disc-n-Dat in Bethel (797-0067), Gerosa Records in Brookfield (775-7074), and New Morning Natural Foods in Woodbury (203-263-4868).
