Lack Of Candidates Was Not A Choice
Lack Of Candidates Was Not A Choice
To the Editor:
I read with much interest your editorial of October 21 regarding the Newtown Board of Education.
It is important for me to point out one fact where you did err. That is when you state ââ¦choosing instead to nominate only enough candidates to make every seat on the Board of Education uncontested.â As the former chairman of the Republican Town Committeeâs Candidate Committee, I can assure you we spent a great deal of time looking for candidates for the Board of Education. One person did come forward, but wanted to be the only candidate presented. We as a committee unanimously voted against that and stood behind the candidate we knew.
Impossible, is the word that comes to mind, to find willing people to come forward and volunteer their time for the various boards and commissions. This is not the fault of the party. The RTC is constantly looking for viable candidates and would welcome anyone coming forward.
My admiration and applause goes to those who put themselves in these positions and serve the town well.
Very sincerely,
Marie Sturdevant
