Leslie J. (Blake) Brokaw, 54, of Sandy Hook, died November 6 at home surrounded by her family and friends after losing a long, gallant battle with cancer. She was the wife of Michael D. Brokaw. They were married March 14, 1970.
Mrs Brokaw was born in Bridgeport, April 28, 1951, daughter of J. Gordon and Mildred H. (Danowski) Blake. She was a graduate of Newtown High School, Class of 1969. She received her LPN from Kaynor Tech, Waterbury, in 1972, her RN from the University of Bridgeport in 1977, and in 1995 her paralegal from Sacred Heart University.
Her working career included Saint Maryâs Hospital, Fairfield Hills Hospital, Housatonic Adolescent Hospital, and Greater Bridgeport Community Mental Health Center. She was currently working at Hallbrooke Behavioral Health, Westport, and Priority Care in Danbury.
In addition to her husband Michael she is survived by her children, Jennifer and Michael Brokaw of Sandy Hook; and her mother-in-law, Peg Brokaw, of Newtown. In addition to her parents she was predeceased by her brothers Edwin and Philip Blake.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St Rose Church, Newtown, on Saturday, November 26, at 1 pm. Cremation will take place at the discretion of the family. There are no calling hours. The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the MMA Leslie J. Brokaw Scholarship Fund, c/o Maine Maritime Academy Development Office, MMA, Castine ME 04420 (tax deductible). This is the school from which both of her children graduated. She and her husband were very active in the Parentsâ Association.
