Occupation: I am an editor for a technology consulting company called Gartner in Stamford, and I also teach at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven. I teach American literature and writing. And I am a poet. Iâve published three full-length collections of poetry and about four chapbooks. I like writing in the traditional form sometimes and I like character/dramatic monologues â fablelike poems.
Family: Wendy is my wife, and we have two daughters, Callan, 7, and Chatham, 4.
Pets: A cockatiel and a parakeet. The cockatiel is named Big Boy and the parakeet is Baby Bird.
How long have you lived in Newtown? We have lived here since 1998.
What do you like to do in your free time? I write and I do a lot of hiking and camping, if I can.
Where is your favorite place to hike? The Pine Barrens in South New Jersey. It is monotonous and flat. It gives you the sense of isolation. You can walk for ten miles without hitting a road.
Who is your favorite poet or author? I like Stephen Dunn for poetry. Itâs very accessible and very wise. Itâs conversational in tone. I like J.D. Salinger and Raymond Carver for fiction.
What is the best thing about Newtown? That itâs friendly.
Do you carry anything interesting in your pockets? No, I donât even carry anything in my pockets, not even my keys. My laptop bag is my âman purseâ now. And it doesnât have anything interesting in it, either.
What is your personal philosophy? Work harder than everybody else. Just work hard.
Where would you like to be in 20 years? I would like to be here, in this house. Iâm here for the long haul and if I can pull that off, Iâll be happy.
