Telling Children That God Loves Them

To the Editor:

It was a privilege to be part of the October 31 activities on Main Street this year. It was a wonderful experience and about 30 members of our local church greeted the adults and children, manned the games, animated the puppets, and offered refreshments.

Our puppet skit and accompanying song may have gotten a little loud simply because of the great number of people everywhere and in an effort to help the children be able to hear what the puppets were saying and singing. The skit was designed to tell the children that there is a God who loves them and they do not have to be afraid. Since it was October 31, I feel this skit was very appropriate. If the volume was offensive to anyone, we sincerely apologize.

Everyone was greeted and anyone interested could bring their children in to play the games, watch the puppet skit, and have a cup of coffee and a donut. After participating in any of the games, all the children were given candy. The church distributed 700 pounds of candy in four hours and we sincerely appreciate the opportunity to be a blessing to the community we have served in for over 21 years.

Many people, while they were getting a cup of coffee, expressed their appreciation for the games and puppets. We told them we offer several children’s events yearly and if they would like to have information on these events mailed to them, they could write their name down on a list and we would send them the event notifications and over 65 families signed up. The overwhelming response of parents was very favorable.

Thank you, Newtown, for the effort you make and the care you demonstrate for your children and your residents.
