This commitment was called to the attention of the candidates of the NICE Party. They decided not to respect it. Shame. Shame.
This commitment was called to the attention of the candidates of the NICE Party. They decided not to respect it. Shame. Shame.
I would also like to quote from a letter I wrote to The Bee on August 1, 2001 in which I said:
âI would like to welcome Newtownâs newest political party (NICE). I hope that the party is not like the third parties formed by high profiles elsewhere. These parties have served to promote the founder and not serve the people.â
The NICE Party, in a letter to the editor, was pleased with my comments. Unfortunately, they have dedicated themselves not to issues, but rather to negative behavior.
First they failed to file their petition to get on the ballot property â some signatures were invalid. One of their members made a vicious attack upon our impeccable public servant, Cindy Curtis Simon, in a letter to the editor. This was followed by a complaint, without merit, to the Ethics Committee.
On Election Day, some of their members irritated many voters by stopping cars at Sandy Hook School and passing out political materials.
The Republicans and the Democrats presented Newtown with outstanding candidates and conducted a high level campaign dedicated to issues. The NICE Party can surely learn by this example. Then they may become nice instead of nasty.
Sincerely,
Earl J. Smith, Jr
