Giorno & Harmon Basketball Tourney This Saturday

The Inaugural Giorno & Harmon Memorial 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament will be held on Saturday November 15 at the Newtown Youth Academy.

The tourney is in honor of John Giorno, a friend of those involved with Newtown basketball programs and Harmon, the former sports editor at The Bee.

All proceeds benefit the Giorno Scholarship Fund and Harmon Family Fund.

The tourney is open for males and females in grades four through 12 as well as adults. Each team should register four players. Cost is $90 for teams in grades 4-8 and $100 for teams in grades 9-12 as well for adults. Participants may register the day of the tourney. Visit newtownyouthbasketball.org for more information.

The schedule of events is as follows:

Grades 4U, 5 and 6: Boys’ and girls’ team captains must check in at 8 am to receive rules and team T-shirts.  Players should arrive by 8:15 am. Play begins at 8:30 am. Youngest plays first. Players should arrive 30 minutes before games

Grades 7-8: Captains must check in at 10 am. Play begins at noon.

Remaining age groups: Captains must check in at noon. Play begins 1:30 pm (depending on number of teams).

Adults check in at 6 pm.

Attempts will be made to complete the tournament by the end of the evening on Saturday.
