NMS Scarecrows Donations Announced

The winners of this year’s Newtown Middle School Scarecrow Sculpture Contest have submitted their choices for local charities that will receive donations from the money raised by the contest.

The recent contest was open to residents to vote on and for each vote residents had to pay $1. The scarecrows were also sold to people who expressed a wish for them, and then all of the money raised was divided between the top voted scarecrows. The sculptures were on view for the public on the lawn of the middle school from October 25 until the evening of October 31.

The $250 awarded for the Pac-Man scarecrow, created by William Carr, Jay DeStories, Bradley Fish, and Michael Vabner, will be donated to The Tommy Fund For Childhood Cancer.

The $250 awarded to the duo who created the Scooby Doo scarecrow, Kimmy Gates and Jane Sclafani, will be donated to Mission Haiti.

The $250 awarded to the group who created the Darth Vader scarecrow — Wyatt Depuy, Christopher Erikson, Collin Hall, Pieter Martino, and Alex Roche — will be donated to the World Wildlife Fund.

The $100 awarded for the Mortimer’s Morsels scarecrow, by Alex LaCroce, Ashley Malia, and Elana Sadlon, will go to FAITH Food Pantry of Newtown.

The $100 awarded for the Death By Chocolate scarecrow — created by Danielle Chaloux, Georgia Contois, Caitlin Gibney, and Stephenie Roman — will be donated to Heifer International.
