Rocks On Road

While traveling northward near 27 Hattertown Road about 11:25 pm November 5, motorist Kristina Everlith, 23, of Stratford, who was driving a 2006 Honda Civic sedan, struck some rocks which were lying on the roadway, police report.

The impact damaged the auto’s undercarriage, police said. Everlith was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Church Hill Collision

Eastbound motorist Robert Brewster, 51, of Southbury, who was driving a 1999 Honda Civic sedan near 14 Church Hill Road about 7:30 pm November 6, struck the rear end of an eastbound 2005 Honda Accord sedan being driven by Christine Rood, 46, of Southbury, police report.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Brewster for following too closely.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Garrett Clark, 25, of 114 Church Hill Road went to the police station on the night of November 6 and turned himself over to police.

Police said they charged Clark with failure to respond to an infraction. Police said that they had originally charged Clark with creating a public disturbance after he was involved in an altercation last June at the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company’s Lobsterfest event at the Riverside Road firehouse.

After processing, police released Clark on $103 bail for a November 20 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Glass Breakage

Sometime between 8:30 pm on November 1, and 9:30 am on November 2, someone broke the rear windows of vehicles parked near #3 and #4 Papoose Hill Road, police said. That street links Hanover Road to Parmalee Hill Road.

Police are investigating the case of criminal mischief and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 426-5841.

BMW Crash

About 5 pm on November 5, motorist Louis Zaharis, 26, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2008 BMW coupe westward on Wasserman Way, encountered a deer that entered the street near the intersection of Nunnawauk Road, according to police. The deer and the auto collided. Zaharis was not injured. Police took no enforcement action.

Flower Pots

Someone intentionally damaged two concrete flower pots near 39 The Boulevard sometime between 8 pm on November 1, and 8 am on November 2, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the vandalism incident to contact investigating officer John McCluskey at the police station at 3 Main Street.

Three Vehicles

Police report a three-vehicle accident near 87 South Main Street about 1:24 pm November 7.

Motorist William McCarthy, 55, of 8 Topside Lane, who was driving a 2003 Mercury Marauder sedan southward, stopped for traffic conditions, after which southbound motorist John Rivers, 47, of Southington, who was driving a 2009 Acura TL sedan, stopped behind the Mercury, police said.

Southbound motorist Prudence Shepard, 68, of 16 Gray’s Plain Road, who was driving a 2003 Subaru Outback station wagon, then struck the rear end of the Acura, pushing the Acura into the rear end of the Mercury, police said.

Police said Rivers was treated at the scene for a minor injury. Hook & Ladder firefighters responded to the accident. Shepard received an infraction for following too closely, according to police.

Bicycle

On November 8, a person found an abandoned Tyler-brand 3-speed bicycle on the front walkway for The Woods at Newtown housing complex at 176 Mt Pleasant Road, police said. Police are holding the bicycle for safekeeping. The owner may claim it at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Tractor-Trailer

An accident occurred between a tractor-trailer truck and a pickup truck at the Shell gas station at 67 Church Hill Road about 7 pm November 8, police said.

Tractor-trailer truck driver J.L. Satterfield, 72, of Daingerfield, Texas, was attempting to back his vehicle out the westernmost driveway of the gas station, as motorist John Cleary, 45, of Southbury was driving a 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck westward on Church Hill Road and approaching the area, police report.

The two vehicles then collided. There were no injuries.

Police issued Satterfield an infraction for unsafe backing. Police gave Cleary an infraction for failure to carry a vehicle registration.

Nissan Accident

About 7 pm November 3, motorist Joseph Speglevin, 46, of Danbury was driving a 2000 Nissan southward on Mt Pleasant Road and was approaching its intersection with Whippoorwill Hill Road, when a deer ran out onto the pavement, police said. The Nissan and the deer collided. The deer ran off. Speglevin was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Volvo Hits Pole

Motorist Ruth Garrett, 70, of 24 Shut Road was driving a 2005 Volvo XC-70 station wagon northward near 223 Hattertown Road about 7:43 pm November 8, when the auto went off the right side of the street and struck a utility pole, police report. Peter Garrett, 72, of the same address, was a passenger, police said.

Monroe ambulance staffers transported Ruth Garrett to Bridgeport Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Dodgingtown firefighters went to the accident. The incident is under investigation by police.

The accident occurred in the area south of Hattertown Road’s intersection with Castle Meadow Road.

Riverside Road

About 8:44 pm November 7, motorist Scott Tucker, 25, of Wallingford was driving a 1997 Chrysler Sebring coupe westward near 96 Riverside Road, as motorist Robert Keeler, 25, of Danbury was driving a 1997 Ford F-250 pickup truck eastward there, according to police.

The Chrysler went out of control, entered the opposite lane and collided with the Ford, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Tucker to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters responded to the accident. Tucker received an infraction for failure to keep to the right on a curve, according to police.

Sign Damaged

Sometime between 4 pm on October 31, and 3 pm on November 1, someone damaged a sign at Trinity Episcopal Church’s memorial garden at 36 Main Street. Police ask anyone who knows who vandalized the sign to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station.

Vehicle Hit

A motor vehicle that was parked on the road shoulder in front of 49 Main Street was struck sometime between 2:30 and 7:30 pm on October 27, police said. Police ask anyone who knows the identity of the person who damaged the vehicle to call their tip line at 270-8888.

Rollover Crash

About 2:12 am November 9, motorist Kenneth Chatlos, 45, of Trumbull was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger pickup truck southward on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Button Shop Road, when the truck went off the roadway to the left, climbed up an embankment, struck a boulder and rolled over, coming to rest back on the road, police said.

Ambulance volunteers transported Chatlos and truck passenger James Dunigan, 26, of Trumbull to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Botsford firefighters went to the accident. The incident is under investigation.

Chain Reaction

A three-vehicle collision occurred near 62 Church Hill Road about 6 pm October 28.

Eastbound motorist Doris Ratner, 72, of 32 Gelding Hill Road, who was driving a 1999 Volvo V-70 sedan, stopped for traffic conditions, after which eastbound motorist Kaitlin Freeman, 17, of 4 Farm Field Ridge Road, who was driving a 2000 Saturn S-2 sedan, stopped behind the Volvo, police said.

Eastbound motorist Brandon Sheehan, 32, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, then hit the rear end of the Saturn, pushing the Saturn into the rear end of the Volvo, police said.

Police listed alternate addresses for Sheehan of 72 Queen Street, Newtown, and also New Milford.

Sheehan received a cut hand, and Freeman experienced a stiff neck, but both declined medical attention, police said. Ratner was not injured, according to police.

Police charged Sheehan with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving with a suspended license. He posted $100 bail for a November 13 court appearance.

Warrant

About 3 pm November 6, after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, a male youth turned himself over to police and was charged with fifth-degree larceny in connection with a complaint that police received last April and then investigated.

Police released the boy on a written promise to appear November 14 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. Youthful offenders are either age 16 or 17. State law shields the identity of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

I-84 Crash

Motorist Christin Russo, 28, of Rye Brook, N.Y., was driving a 2003 Honda Civic eastward in the left lane on Interstate 84, west of Exit 10, about 8:20 pm November 8, when she attempted to negotiate a curve to the right in rainy conditions, but went onto the road’s left shoulder, climbed an embankment and rolled over, state police said. Hawleyville firefighters went to the accident.

Russo received minor injuries, said state police, who issued her a warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Highway Accident

Motorist Marjorine Henriquez, 21, of New York City was driving a 2007 Honda Civic eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, about 10:40 pm November 8, when the vehicle went off the left side of the road and struck a metal-beam guardrail on the median, after which it went back across the eastbound lanes and came to rest on turf alongside the right road shoulder, state police said.

Henriquez was not injured. State police gave her an infraction for failure to drive in the established lane.

Vandalism

Sometime between 8 pm on November 5, and 6:50 am on November 6, someone threw a rock through the rear window of an auto parked on Taunton Lake Road, police report. The incident caused an estimated $300 worth of damage. Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer William Hull at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841, or to contact him via email at william.hull@newtown-ct.gov.

Burglary Attempt

About 11:45 am on November 10, a resident heard an alarm sound at the person’s Harvest Common Road home, after which the resident spotted a male about five feet, five inches tall dressed in dark clothing near a front window of the house. The male then ran off across the front lawn, police said.

Harvest Common Road is a side street off Great Ring Road, near Berkshire Road.

Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station, 426-5841.

Sugar Street Deer

Motorist Joanmarie Bresnahan, 70, of Redding was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Passat sedan westward near 55 Sugar Street about 9 pm November 11, when a deer ran out onto the road in front of the auto, resulting in a collision, police report. Bresnahan was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Poverty Hollow Fox

About 10:49 am November 10, motorist Rebecca Rodriguez, 36, of  29 Poorhouse Road was driving a 2001 Toyota Prius sedan northward on Poverty Hollow Road, near Farm Meadow Road, when a fox entered the street, police said.

Rodriguez swerved to avoid a collision, but the auto went off the road and struck a traffic sign and a stormwater catch basin, police said.

Ambulance staffers treated Rodriguez for an abrasion, police said. Two child passengers in the auto were not injured, police said. Dodgingtown firefighters went the accident. Police issued Rodriguez a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Truck Vs Dog

Motorist Murillo Franca, 20, of Bethel was driving a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup truck northward on Horseshoe Ridge Road midday on November 11, when the truck struck a small dog that had run out onto the street, police said.

Franca, however, did not stop and also failed to report the accident to police, according to police.      

The truck that Franca was driving at the time of the collision was found a short distance from the accident scene and was identified by a witness to the incident, police said.

The dog died due to injuries received in the collision, police said. Franca was not injured.

Police issued Franca infractions for failure to report a vehicular accident involving a dog and also for driving without a license.

SUV Vs Beetle

About 2:22 pm November 7, northbound motorist Jennifer Desrosiers, 17, of 16 Twist Hill Lane, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV near 10 Berkshire Road, struck the rear end of a northbound 2001 Volkswagen Beetle coupe driven by Byrony Langdon, 17, of 18 Sleepy Hollow Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Desrosiers a written warning for following too closely.
