*Music at Mocha this month comes not only with the usual good notes but a new one: By the end of the month adult patrons may have the opportunity to enjoy an Imperial Stout or a glass of wine along with the other goodies offered by the Glen Road coffeehouse.
âWe have no intention of being a bar,â promised owner Rob Kaiser in this monthâs newsletter. âWe plan to apply the same love of unique flavors that drives our current menu to a small selection of local, seasonal, artisan beers and wines,â he added. If approved, a liquor license for Mocha would only add to the venueâs offerings; it shouldnât change anything, he said. Mochaâs hours, art, multi-generational clientele, coffee and edibles will otherwise remain the same.
As will the music, which continues in November with three new artists (including the introduction last weekend of Meagan Sacco) and another open forum/jam session later this month.
MIKE GRIFFIN will return to the stage area tonight (November 14), performing some of the more than 200 songs he has penned since age 14, and then SAM BLANCHETTTE, or Sammy B, will make his Mocha debut. Sammy is currently studying music performance in jazz for guitar over at WestConn, and has been influenced by a wide spectrum of artists and instructors since age 10, when he began performing.
Next Friday Mocha will welcome New Milford native JESSE LYNCH, who returns with indie rock-grunge, and on Saturday itâll be another Sandy Hook debut, this time for 16-year old Danbury musician RYAN STOTTLE. Ryan writes and performs his own acoustic alt-rock and is working on his first CD, already called Touch The Sky.
BILL DEVLIN & FRIENDS will offer Irish and Irish-American music on Friday, November 28. Scheduled performers will include Bill on wooden flute and whistle, Andrew Carey on mandolin and vocals, and Nora Hanley on fiddle.
Then on Saturday, November 29 will be the open jam mentioned earlier. Not an open mic, this evening offers an open invitation for local musicians to perform âa mixed bad of popular and traditional tunes.â
*AARON LEWIS, the lead singer of (of course!) multi-platinum selling band Staind, will be returning to Mohegan Sun for a solo acoustic performance on Saturday, February 28, at 8 pm. Lewis has had great success with a number of his solo acoustic shows in the casinoâs Cabaret Theatre since 2004, but the 2009 performance will have a change: This time the show will be in the larger Mohegan Sun Arena.
Tickets are $35 and $45 and will be on sale this morning (Friday, November 14).
For those who have been to any of the previous Aaron Lewis shows and have enjoyed the interaction between the musician and his fans, do not fear⦠organizers promised the February show will feature plenty of acoustic versions of hits, and fans will still have the chance to interact with Lewis as he takes requests from the audience.
Visit MoheganSun.com or any TicketMaster vendor for tickets.
*Speaking of Mohegan Sun, bravo to the staff of Mohegan Sun Margaritaville, who hosted the grand opening celebratory reception and concert by JIMMY BUFFETT last weekend. In the midst of a miserable rainy afternoon, the staff kept great smiles going and served up plenty of food and drinks to hundreds of Parrotheads â including yours truly â who had flocked into the newest restaurant in Buffettâs original restaurant franchise for the chance to party together and with the King Parrothead himself on November 8.
For the number of people who were in that relatively small space and the amount of activity that was going on before, during and after Buffettâs one hour set, Margaritavilleâs crew did a great job keeping everything running as smooth as a schooner on the open sea far, far away from any storm clouds. The only storm clouds I saw on Saturday were those on the rotating hurricane within Margaritaville, and that one ends inside a giant blender of margaritas⦠so it ainât all that bad.
Until next week Iâll be seeing you... on the road.
