Lightning 4, Monroe 0: The Lightning outplayed Monroe on both ends of the field in the district semifinal match. Sarah Lynch had two goals and an assist and Jessica Keller and Shelby Tolla scored one apiece. Tolla, Kailee Dunnigan and Megan Meyer controlled play in the midfield, and Helene Sorensen, Michelle Zarifis, and Meghan Korchman were tough on defense. Cassie Fischer and Raquel Crespo helped keep up the offensive pressure in the first period, and Meaghan Brophy had several good charges on goal in the second half. Kate Fallon and Megan Weber played well in goal.  Â
Lightning 1, Fairfield United 0: The U12 girls took the district championship title after a well-fought game against Fairfield United. The two teams battled scoreless through the first half, and Newtown was unable to convert a shot despite repeated attempts. Jessica Keller scored the only goal of the game early in the second period off an assist by Sarah Lynch. Kelsey Muniz was fierce on offense and Siena Cicarelli and Amy Martinelli played well in the midfield. The Lightning kept up a shutdown defense throughout the game, as Brophy and Dale Shearin each had several good defensive stops. Fallon and Emily Riley handled the nets.
The Lightning ended the season with an 8-1-1 record in league play, and a 12-2-2 record overall.
