Three people were transported to the hospital following a serious crash on Main Street Friday evening.

Around 6:30 pm November 14, Newtown Police, Newtown Hook & Ladder Volunteer Fire Company, and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the reported two-vehicle crash on Main Street just north of its intersection with Academy Lane.

First responders quickly determined there were multiple patients and mutual aid was requested, with Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company and a Danbury Fire Medic subsequently dispatched.

Newtown Police say Scott R. Bardinelli, 22, of Trumbull, was operating a silver 2019 Nissan Altima northbound on Main Street toward Academy Lane. At the same time, David White, 37, of Newtown, was operating a gray 2026 Ram pickup truck southbound on Main Street between Martin Street and Academy Lane.

As the Nissan approached the intersection of Academy Lane, it crossed over the double yellow center lines and entered into the southbound travel lane of Main Street. The front end of the Nissan then struck the front driver side of the full-size pickup truck.

Bardinelli sustained serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. According to the police report he was not wearing a seat belt.

Bardinelli was transported by Newtown Ambulance to the hospital. There were no passengers in the Altima.

White also sustained serious injuries, according to the police report. His wife was in the passenger seat of the truck, and received suspected minor injury, also according to the police report.

The Whites were both wearing seat belts. They were also transported via Newtown Ambulance.

Main Street was closed at the crash scene for approximately two hours while first responders provided patient care and then began the investigation.

The case remains open, with enforcement pending.
