Newtown Police Seeking Witnesses To Serious Main Street Crash
Local first responder agencies responded to a serious crash on Main Street last night that sent all three people involved to the hospital. Newtown Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them.
On Friday, November 14, at approximately 6:31 pm, Newtown Police, Newtown Hook & Ladder Volunteer Fire Company and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to a two-vehicle crash on Main Street at the intersection with Academy Lane.
Upon arrival by first responders it was quickly determined there were multiple patients and mutual aid was requested. Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company, and Danbury Fire Medic also responded to provide assistance.
An investigation determined a silver 2019 Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on Main Street towards Academy Lane. A gray 2026 Ram pickup truck was traveling south on Main Street between Martin Street and Academy Lane in the westbound travel lane. As the Nissan approached the intersection of Academy Lane, that vehicle crossed over the double yellow center lines and entered into the southbound travel lane of Main Street. The front end of the Nissan then struck the driver side front end of the Ram.
The operator of the Nissan sustained serious injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle by the fire companies. The operator was transported by Newtown Ambulance to the hospital. There were no other occupants in that vehicle.
The operator of the Ram sustained moderate injuries, and the passenger of the truck sustained a minor injury. Both occupants were also transported via Newtown Ambulance.
Main Street was closed for approximately two hours in the area of the crash while first responders provided patient care and then began the investigation.
