Another Great Scarecrow Contest
Another Great Scarecrow Contest
To the Editor:
Congratulations to all of the contestants of the Annual Scarecrow Contest at Newtown Middle School. Once again our students put together a band of captivating creatures to scare away the wrongs and ills of our society. Itâs too bad our scarecrows could not scare away Hurricane Sandy.
The top three winners of the scarecrow contest were the iPhone (first place), Woodland King (second place), and the Tardis (third place). As of this writing I do not have the information on the charities to which the students are donating their proceeds.
I would like to thank our dedicated art teachers at NMS for guiding the students and assisting each group during the month of October. Most of all I would like to thank Claudia Mitchell for her leadership of the volunteers throughout the process. She was readily available to answer questions and help make decisions, especially on the day before Hurricane Sandy rolled into town.
Thank you to our wonderful scarecrow committee members Joanne Keane, Kristine Humber, and George Ferris. Everyone was so willing to divide up the responsibilities and contribute to the contestâs success.
Thank you also to The Newtown Bee for promoting the contest, publishing the ballot, and collecting ballots in their office. Their promotion of this annual community event is most gracious and has helped lead to the success of the contest.
A little âshout outâ to NMSâs Terri Greenfield and the NMS custodians for assisting us during the scarecrow contest. You never said No to our needs.
Most of all, thank you parents, grandparents, relatives, friends, and the Newtown community for your support during the contest and for coming out to vote for your favorite scarecrows.
