*Final reminder that there is a benefit concert tonight (Nov 18) at Edmond Town Hall. A concert by COSMIC JIBAROS and THE BREAKFAST will benefit radio station WPKN. Tickets are $20. All proceeds from the concert will benefit the Bridgeport-based non-profit listener supported radio station (89.5 FM). Showtime is 8 pm.

Tickets can be purchased online at wpkn.org or at the box office within the town hall, at 45 Main Street in Newtown.

*If that music isn’t your speed, perhaps this is: TRUE, a “jam punk ska influenced” band (according to group’s growing website) featuring Newtown residents  Jessy Goodwick, Paul Kate and Lyle Murphy, will be at The Empress Ballroom on Saturday night. This trio, which plays original music, will also be at The Webster Underground next weekend, on Saturday, November 26.

*The town hall will also host a benefit concert later this weekend: WAH!, who combines reggae, Hindu and pop to create her own blend of spiritual world music, will be at Edmond Town Hall on Sunday, November 20. Tickets for the 4 pm concert are $20 per person, and just $5 for each additional family member.

The concert will include songs from her latest release, Unplugged, as well as Sanskrit chants from previous albums.

*ANOTHER FINE MESS will be at Starbucks on Church Hill Road this weekend, on Saturday evening.

*According to Jim Allen, the Sunday Afternoon Open Mic last weekend at Mocha went so well that Jim and Mocha owner Mike Palumbo are going to try this as a regular event.

The event runs from 5 to 7:30 on Sundays at the coffee house at 3 Glen Road. Don’t panic if there isn’t an open parking spot in front of the coffee house, there is plenty of parking in the new lot just adjacent to Mocha and the small boutique that shares Mocha’s driveway, Tre Regazzi.

The open mic welcomes singers, poets, authors, musicians, etc. There will be a featured performer each week at 6 pm, and the open mic will on either side of that performance.

Jim wasn’t sure this week what will happen on upcoming holiday weekends, so give the coffee house a call if you want to check before heading over for the open mic. Mocha can be reached at 364-9200.

*Classical blues and zydeco: The University of New Haven’s College of Arts and Sciences will present RADOSLAV LORKOVIC and LARA HERSCOVITCH in concert at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, November 29. The performance will be in the Alumni Hall of the university’s Bartels Hall. Admission is free.

Born in Croatia, Lorkovic draws from a multitude of influences ranging from elegant classical and jazz styles to basic blues, country and soul. He has taken on an unusually broad musical spectrum and refined it into his distinctive piano style in each of his six CDs.

Herscovitch is just as unique, a charismatic singer-songwriter whose original music is a blend of folk, pop and Latin styles. Her songs, featured on two CDs, merge soulful melodies with lyrical depth, humor and insight.

*MAROON 5 has been booked for a New Year’s Eve show at Mohegan Sun Arena. Tickets will be on sale Friday, November 18, at 10 am. Concertgoers can plan to ring in the new year with family and friends and still see the show; the concert is scheduled to begin at 8 pm and will conclude by 9:30.

Tickets are $60 and $75, and available through all TicketMaster vendors.

*The Webster Theater will welcome LESS THAN JAKE back to the state on January 27, when the band plays a headlining show that will also include opening sets by A Wilhelm Scream, Rock & Roll Soldiers and Damone.

*Also returning to the state, later next year, will be COLDPLAY, who plays Mohegan Sun Arena on Tuesday, April 4. Tickets for that show will be on sale Saturday, November 19, at 10 am. Tickets have been priced at $76 and $96 for that show, which is being described as a “2006 Connecticut-exclusive event.”

Until next week I’ll be seeing you... on the road.
