A Talented Group Of Kids
A Talented Group Of Kids
To the Editor:
This town should be so proud of our high school marching band and color guard. Undefeated in Class IV competition this year, these 109 kids ended their dream season with a championship win Saturday night. In addition, they captured awards for best marching, best music, and general effect. The color guard also won an award, receiving more points than schools with much larger programs. Last month they outscored 19 other color guards from throughout the east coast at the US Scholastic Band Association Yamaha Cup in Baltimore.
This town should be honored to be represented by such an awesome and talented group of kids. They worked hard at band camp in August, spent hours practicing each week, and never gave up all season, competing every week since the beginning of September. Now they have 17 trophies and a championship banner to show for all their dedication. Good for them!
Newtown is also lucky to have such a great staff working with our children. A high school band canât learn the music and marches without a dedicated staff. Each one of the dozen staff members got the best from our kids and still made it fun. Kudos to them too!
Itâs not often a high school team has an undefeated season and wins a championship. This group deserves recognition. The Newtown High School Marching Band and Color Guard may just be Newtownâs best-kept secret.
