It just keeps getting better and better.

The John Giorno Memorial 3-On-3 Basketball Tournament celebrated its fourth year in typically grand and chaotic fashion last Saturday at Newtown High School with furious action on the court and stupendous silent auction and raffle items off the court.

“We had so many people donate items and had a lot of great auction stuff,” said organizer John Quinn. “It worked out great. It was a terrific day.”

The tournament was organized four years ago after longtime coach and youth sports supporter John Giorno passed away. Proceeds from the tournament – which include a variety of amazing raffle and silent auction items – have benefited the Giorno College Fund.

An autographed Providence Friars team jersey, a Boston University jersey, tickets to the New York Mets, college basketball game tickets, camp memberships, autographed memorabilia – there were tons of items for local basketball fans to bid on this year as the frenetic action (six courts were in motion almost the entire day) kept coaches and referees busy inside the gym.

Some of those items are still unclaimed and will be available at the Parks and Recreation Department office (270-4340). Winners (see below) are requested to pick up those items by the end of the month.

RAFFLE – Purple Nantucket Nectar chair (Rachel Maley); Umbrella (Maria); Mountain Dew sweatshirt (ticket #348981); Cadbury Gift Basket No. 1 (#347530); Cadbury Gift Basket No. 2 (#348492); Boston University jersey No. 1 (#348667); Boston University jersey No. 2 (#348551); Iona jersey No. 1 (#347478); Iona jersey No. 2 (#348554); Hofstra t-shirt (#348852); Davidson golf shirt (#348866); Quinnipiac shirt (Sam B.); Virginia Tech golf shirt (Conway); Snapple© Game/Case (Jessica Beber #348348).

SILENT AUCTION – Umbrella/Golf Quest gift certificate (Brindley); UConn gift bag (Peter Muniz); Rutgers gift set (Pat Mullins): Providence College autographed team jersey (FJ Urso); Chics & Stones blue earrings (FJ Urso); Iona versus Fairfield college basketball tickets (FJ Urso); Chics & Stones red earrings (Dorothy Schmidt).
