Local equine artist Leslie Hudson-Tolles will be moving on soon, but before she goes she will hold an Art Tag Sale on Saturday, December 10, from 1 to 5 pm, at her Aunt Park Lane home in Sandy Hook. Twenty percent of the proceeds will benefit the Newtown Bridle Lands Association and its open space program.

Ms Hudson-Tolles has been exhibiting art all over the region for over a decade – from being the featured equine artist at the Winter Horseman’s Conference in North Hampton, Massachusetts to her exhibition Invitation to Ride: Horses of Wood, Horses of Warmth which opened in August at the New England Carousel Museum in Bristol.

Along the way, Ms Hudson-Tolles – currently an educator in the Ridgefield public school system – has exhibited at Complete Picture Gallery in Sandy Hook; The Sportsman’s Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia; the Western States Horse Expo Art Show in Sacramento, California; the Carriage Barn Arts Center at Waveny Park in New Canaan; the state capitol in Hartford; Art Tenders in Bethel; Artistic Surroundings Gallery in Danbury; The Rose  Gallery in Kent; the Northern Westchester Center for the Arts in Mount Kisco, New York; the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Kentucky; the Station Gallery in New Milford; the Equine Affaire at the Eastern States Exposition in West Springfield, Massachusetts; The Tack Room Gallery in Westport, and The Colonnade at the Sharon Art Gallery in Peterborough, New Hampshire.

Ms Hudson-Tolles has won numerous awards – such as second place honors at Bethel Art League juried shows in 1994 and first-place and Dick Blick award honors at SCAN juries shows in  1995 and 1998. Professional honors include a Connecticut Art Educator of the Year award in 1991 and a Distinguished Educators Award from the Connecticut Alliance of Arts Education in 2001.

Her horses have been featured on the cover of The Chronicle of the Horse, Visions, in Equine Images, The Horseman’s Yankee Pedlar, and California Riding Magazine and she has art in the collections of the Newman/Woodward family, Denis Leary, John Lyons, The Phil Marino Racing Stables and Brian Williams.
