Mary E. Stowe Smethurst

Loved Animals And Dancing

Mary E. “Turie” Stowe Smethurst, 89, of Trumbull, beloved wife of William J. Smethurst, died November 16 at Bridgeport Hospital. Mrs Smethurst was born in Bridgeport and had been a Trumbull resident since 1952.

Survivors in addition to her husband include her devoted children, a son, William F. Smethurst of Sandy Hook, and a daughter, Sharon Schwab and husband, Jerome, of Trumbull; a sister, Pearl Fanning of Beacon Falls; six grandchildren, Melissa, Geoffrey, James, William, Michael, and James; one great-grandchild, William; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three sisters and one brother, Ullie Stuart, Eleanor Ludwig, Lena DeLorme, and John Stowe.

She was a member of the St Theresa Seniors and loved dancing, both line dancing and square dancing with the Rockin’ Roosters.

Funeral services will be held Friday, November 18, at 1 pm in the Redgate-Hennessy Funeral Home, Main Street and Gorham Place, Trumbull, with the Rev Elizabeth H. Schrader of the Long Hill United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Bridgeport. Friends may call Friday from noon until the time of service.

Mrs Smethurst loved animals and in lieu of flowers, please make contributions in her memory to the Connecticut Humane Society, 455 Post Road East, Westport CT 06880.
