The Newtown Flash girls 11-and-under travel soccer team defeated Southbury, 3-2, to conclude an unbeaten and untied season in the Northwest District.

The results:

TRAVEL

Girls U12

Power 7, Torrington 1 – Molly Mahony scored two goals while Nora Murphy, Meaghan Carney, Leah Barrett, Maddy Keane, and Nicole Davis each added one each to lead the Power to the win and a season-ending league record of 4-2-2. Kelley Gaston, Katherine Scott, Ali Korchman, and Kendall Svanda had assists. Ale Fuentes played well at forward. Jessica Jowdy, Hannah Maret, Chistina Caporale, Celeste Cheung, and Cristina Naldini played solid midfield. Abbie Keough, Cassie Fallon and Brooke Leifels anchored the defense. Stefanie Clavette secured the goal.

Girls U11

Flash 3, Southbury 2 – Brittany Tolla, Kelsey Karp and Stephanie Roman all scored as the Newtown Flash defeated Southbury to finish undefeated and untied in the Northwest District. Roman and Morgan Kirol had assists. Kristen Grabowski, Kelly Brooks, Julia Trudell, Kristy Papaj and Jenna Hindes all played well.

Girls U10

Jaguars 1, New Milford 1 – Angela Halili scored off assists from Taylor Brady and Ali Brazo as the Jaguars finished their inaugural season with a draw. Although New Milford stepped up the offensive pressure in the second half, Jaclyn Daily controlled the back, constantly clearing the ball out of danger. To preserve the tie, Abbie Kuligowski made an awesome save of a point blank shot in the closing minutes. Coached by Charlie Daily and Scott Newton, and trained by Melissa Vallera, the Jaguars made tremendous progress over the course of the season. Jamison Fletcher, Emily Grimes, Lindsay Jagoe, Karlie Kuligowski, Tess Murray, Brooke Newton, Anna Northrop and Shannon O’Gorman look forward to the up-coming indoor winter season.

IN-HOUSE

Girls U14

Hyper Hippos 1, Sharpshooters 1 – Courtney Beckett of the Hippos and Isabel Gleason of the ‘Shooters scored the lone goals in the 1-1 draw. For the Hippos, Bianca Leblanc and Jamie Keating played well in goal while Lauren Pettinelli, Katie Peters, Becca Silveira and Margot Isaacs had strong performances. For the ‘Shooters, Lauren Meyer and Jane Sclafani anchored the D as Kristen Tassinari and Clare Donnelly also played well.

Boys U8

Strikers 3, Tigersharks 0 – Scott Anderson scored all three goals to lead the Strikers to the win. Matthew Pelison, Nick Samuelson and Dillon Palumbo had strong games. For the Tigersharks, Cal Cregan was solid in goal, Michael Meyer had a good offensive game and Forest Weatherby played well on D.

Fierce Jaguars 2, Great Sharks 1 – Jamie Cochran and Calvin Witteveen (on loan from the Sharks) scored to lift the Jaguars to the win. Paul O’Leary and Andrew Svanda played well in the field. For the Sharks, Calvin Witteveen scored the lone goal while Chris Healey and Conrad Reilly played great.
