The winter sports season at Newtown High School will open on Monday, November 21, as the girls’ basketball program holds its tryouts for the 2005-06 season. Boys’ basketball, ice hockey, indoor track, wrestling and swimming will begin on Monday, November 28.

For girls’ basketball, freshmen will tryout from 2 to 4 pm while junior varsity and varsity players will tryout from 4 to 6 pm.

All student-athletes must be academically eligible to tryout for a team. First quarter grades determine winter eligibility (no more than on F and an overall average of 70 or greater are required to participate).

Each student athlete will be required to turn in the following items in order to participate at tryouts – 1) Pay to participate fee ($100 for cheerleading and track; $150 for swimming, basketball and wrestling; ice hockey has its own pay-to-participate fee. Checks should be made out to NHS).; 2) Parent permission form signed by parent and student; 3) A copy of the student-athlete’s current physical.

The parent permission and physical forms can be found in the main office, at the nurse’s office located at Newtown High School, or going to www.nighthawksports.com and clicking on Winter Sports Information.

All necessary items will be collected by each coach prior to tryouts.
