Don't Destroy A Town Treasure
Donât Destroy
A Town Treasure
To the Editor:
I was shocked and saddened when I read about the town entertaining a proposal for the military to build a training facility at Fairfield Hills. To think that the High Meadow with the breathtaking views and the beautiful trail system would no longer be available for the people of Newtown to enjoy is absolutely heartbreaking.
Personally I enjoy this gem in Newtown to ride my horses as it is one of the last safe places to ride without having to endure traffic on the roads. It is the only place I go anymore to enjoy my equine companions.
I urge the selectman and all who would have a part in making this decision to please consider the impact of this complete eyesore and the horrible tragedy it would be to destroy such a town treasure. So many residents enjoy this space in different ways and to take it away for the military to put up gates and chain fences would be devastating to the overall character of Newtown.
Respectfully,
