Holiday Fair At Southbury Church
SOUTHBURY â A framed, signed land grant of the Dakota Territory will be just one of the items up for auction at the Holiday Fair of the United Church of Christ-Southbury.
The fair, running from 9:30 am to 3 pm on Saturday, November 22, will feature a live auction presided over by auctioneer Paul Stansel, and one of the items he will offer is a framed land grant of the Dakota Territory dated 1883 and signed by the then-President of the United States, Chester A. Arthur.
Also up for bids will be two prints by muralist David Merrill another print by William Schimmel. Other items include a five-course Italian dinner with wine pairings, a five-hour cruise for four out of Mystic, a week in a Cape Cod vacation home, and snowboarding lessons.
In addition to the auction, the fair offers an extensive selection of hand-crafted gift items plus baked goods, jewelry and estate silver, and fresh evergreen wreaths from the local Boy Scouts. Coffee and refreshments will be available in the morning, with a sit-down luncheon at 11:30.
Children can enjoy craft activities, including face painting with the aid of local Girl Scouts.Â
A silent auction will run from 9:30 am until 1 pm, followed at 2 by the live auction.
The fair will culminate with the drawing of the winning raffle ticket at 3 pm, but tickets, at $2 each, will be available for purchase up until 2 pm at the fair. First prize in the raffle is the Pocketful of Posies quilt, constructed and quilted by hand especially for the holiday fair and valued at $1,200. Second prize is an Apple iPod Touch, third prize is dinner for two at the Mayflower Inn in Washington, and fourth prize is a $75 Exxon/Mobil gas card.Â
