Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard Hosts Girl Scouts

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) recently hosted a visit from Junior Girl Scout Troop #64506. PFC Catherine Monckton arranged for the visit and prepared materials for the girls to fulfill requirements for their “Horse Fan” badge.

PFC Monckton did a classroom presentation on cavalry tack and uniforms.

Horse Officer 2LT Jennifer Mazzara spoke on equine careers, anatomy and overall care of the 2GHG herd. 2LT Cindy Joyce, a certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, spoke about 2GHG’s Saddle Up for Life riding programs for people with disabilities.

The group then moved to the barn, where 2LT Mazzara used Dallas to show horse anatomy – including close-ups of teeth and hooves.

PVTs Bill Goessinger, Kathleen Guiffre and Linda Clearwater all helped supervise the grooming of several horses. Finally, everyone went outside to pose for a group photo with PFC Monckton, Scout Co-Leader Ivy Siwik and fabulous 2GHG mount Patton. The 11 scouts enjoyed learning about horses while they earned their badges.
