Flagpole Radio Café announced a return to the stage at Edmond Town Hall this holiday season.

Announced this week, the local variety show that brings together The Flagpole Radio Café Orchestra and the witty performers of The Flagpole Shakespeare Repertory Theatre for an evening that’s as smart as it is fun will offer a holiday show Saturday, December 6, at 7 pm.

Acclaimed singer-songwriter Patty Larkin will join as the evening’s special guest, bringing her soulful voice and poetic storytelling to the café’s signature blend of clever comedy, live music, and old-school radio flair.

Larkin is a visionary singer-songwriter and guitarist whose music blends poetic lyricism, soulful vocals, and dazzling musicianship. Described as “riveting” (Chicago Tribune), “hypnotic” (Entertainment Weekly), and “drop-dead brilliant” (Performing Songwriter), Larkin has captivated audiences for over three decades with her inventive sound and emotional depth.

With 11 studio albums and two live recordings under her belt, Larkin mined the intersections of poetry and song with her 2020 innovative release, Bird in a Cage (Road Narrows Records). Larkin’s 14th release, Bird in a Cage puts poems from ten notable poets to song, including US Poet Laureates William Carlos Williams, Stanley Kunitz, Kay Ryan, Robert Pinsky, and Billy Collins.

Poems are made to be shared aloud, and with Bird in a Cage, Larkin takes up that tradition and sets it aglow. As Larkin describes it: “Over the years I began my writing days by reading my favorite poets just to be amazed and inspired. I looked to poetry as I look at nature: with awe. This morning ritual evolved into a desire to make music of some of my favorite poems. The rhythm and cadence of the lines felt new and fresh to me, the melody slowly revealing itself. And uncovering a melody that is slowly revealed by the words was pure joy.”

The recipient of Boston Music Awards and an Honorary Doctorate from Berklee College of Music, Larkin has collaborated with artists including Rosanne Cash, Suzanne Vega, and Mary Chapin Carpenter, and her songs have appeared in films like Sliding Doors and Random Hearts.

Raised in the Midwest and based on Cape Cod, Larkin continues to redefine the boundaries of the guitar-driven singer-songwriter with her imagination, technical mastery, and soul-stirring artistry. Her performance next month marks a return to the Edmond Town Hall stage, having been the guest performer with Flagpole Radio Café’s December 2011 holiday-themed show.

Larkin will be joining the ensemble of local musicians Jim Allyn, Rick Brodsky, Howie Carlough, Lara Herscovitch, Paul Lundquist, and Francine Wheeler, and actors Martin Blanco, Barbara Gaines, Kate Katcher, and David Wheeler.

Tickets for December 6 are $45 each, general admission, and available through edmondtownhall.org. and flagpoleproductions.org.

Concessions will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
