Andrew R. Beers

WWII Veteran And Bronze Medal Recipient

Andrew R. Beers, 83, of Fairfield, the loving husband of Dorothy (Chicos) Beers for 50 years, died November 18 in St Vincent’s Medical Center.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his loving daughters Arlene McCarthy and her husband, Matt, of Sandy Hook and Beverly Buonanno and her husband, Nicholas, of Huntington; a sister, Helen Keller of Lakeville and his brother-in-law, John Chicos of Wappingers Falls, N.Y. His five grandchildren, whom he loved to spend time with and who meant the world to him, Christopher, Matthew, Patrick and Meaghan McCarthy, and Christine Buonanno, also survive him. His three brothers, Frank, William, and Ernest, predeceased him.

Born in Bridgeport, Mr Beers was a US Navy veteran of World War II, and a Bronze Medal recipient who served in Saipan, Tinian, and Okinawa.

Prior to his retirement, Mr Beers was a mail carrier in Bridgeport for the US Postal Service and also worked as a bartender for many years for The Shorehaven Golf Club in Norwalk. Funeral services were held on November 22 at the Shaughnessey Funeral Home, Fairfield and at St Thomas Aquinas Church for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with full military honors was in St Thomas Cemetery.
