Attorney Served As Councilman, City   Justice, And City Court Judge
James A. Panettiere, 90, retired judge and attorney in Yonkers, N.Y., died November 18 in Danbury. Mr Panettiere was the husband of Victoria (Falco) and was a resident since 2001 of St George Place, Sandy Hook.
He was born in New York City on April 22, 1915, a son of Vincent and Rose (Cincotta) Panettiere. He was a graduate of Fordham University in 1936 and of Fordham Law School in 1939. Attorney Panettiere practiced law in Yonkers and was admitted to practice before the US Supreme Court.
During World War II, Mr Panettiere served in the US Army. He was active in Yonkers politics and served as councilman, city justice, and judge of the City Court.
Mr Panettiere was a life member and former exalted ruler of the Elks Club as well as a past president of the Rotary Club of Yonkers and was a life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a participant in the Senior Olympics as a runner, cyclist, and swimmer, as well as an avid chess player.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children, Vicki Bassett and her husband, Robert, of Newtown, Vincent A. Panettiere and his wife, Beverly, of Norfolk, Mass., and James A. Panettiere, Jr, and his wife, Rosemary, of Somers, N.Y.; one sister, Mary McCaffrey, Bronx, N.Y.; six grandchildren, Leigh Ann Panettiere and her husband, Christopher Mirra, James Panettiere, Vincent James Panettiere, Robert Bassett, Christopher Bassett, and Lisa Marie Panettiere; two nieces, Christine Falco and Susan Barry and her husband, Walter, and their daughters, Marie and Kristen.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 26, at 9:30 am from the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, and at 10 am in St Rose of Lima Church, Newtown, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, N.Y. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home Friday, November 25, from 2 pm to 4 pm and 7 pm to 9 pm.
