Carl ‘Chad’ Werden
Carl “Chad” Werden, 62, formerly of Sandy Hook, and recently of Myrtle Beach, S.C., passed away on November 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born February 4, 1963, Chad was the son of the late Regina Dennis Werden. He was also predeceased by his brother Rory and his sister Sandy D’Angelo.
Chad is survived by his fiancée, Margaret Tiana “Ty” Williams; his cherished daughter, Delaney, and his beloved grandsons, Charlie and Jackson; his brothers Tim, Rick (Susan), and Mark (Kim); his sisters Valerie Foote and Kim Keenan; his nephews Jimmy, Chris, Jack, and Hunter; his former wife and dear friend Kristen Werden; and his faithful feline companion, Ozzy.
Known for being a man of few words, the words he did use were often hilarious. Along with his sense of humor, he was incredibly talented and creative. A contractor by trade, he possessed an extraordinary gift for woodworking and building beautiful things. Over the years he also built lasting relationships with many of his clients, including the late Ed and Lorraine Warren, who considered him a true friend; as well as the Sisters at the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem (Conn.).
In 2018, Chad and Ty moved to South Carolina to embrace a quieter life near the ocean. There, he launched his own business and, together, they bought and lovingly renovated their home. In June 2020, while visiting Connecticut, Chad contracted COVID-19 and spent six months fighting for his life in the hospital. He went on to receive New England’s first COVID-related double lung transplant — a gift that gave him five precious additional years. Though his health never fully returned, Chad lived every day with profound gratitude to his organ donor.
In that time he welcomed two grandsons who, along with his daughter Delaney, were the brightest lights of his life.
Chad will be remembered for his humor, kindness, skillful hands, quiet strength, and the deep love he had for his family — both human and feline.
A celebration of life will be planned for the spring.
